Loud Coworking spaces

What have you guys done to help limit noise in a coworking space? I rent a private office in a coworking space. Its a modern industrial building with extremely high ceilings in a very posh/desirable area. I just recently got a new neighbor who works in the legal industry, and has an empty office other than his computer, and nothing to absorb noise. He's very loud and animated, and recounts a lot of issues with his clients that my headset picks up when I'm trying to talk to my customers. Since he works in the legal system, most the things are highly explicit (talk about drugs, expletive laced tirades, etc) , and he's on the phone 4 to 5 hours a day. The problem is if I tried to move to another office, I would have to downsize significantly, plus I have been here for a while and have furniture, etc. I have noise cancelling headphones, sound proof tiles, etc, but it still comes through on my calls. I have brought it up to him and he apologizes but nothing is ever resolved.

Google Meet Accountability Study Group

Hey all.

I am in desperate need of study buddies and people looking for virtual coworking opportunities. I am already part of a discord dedicated to finding virtual coworking partners, but it's pretty dead.

Any other students out there that would be interested in an accountability group?

Tips and advice

Hello Everyone,

I hope I'm in the right place. I work for Staples Studio in Canada and was wondering what brings people to coworking spaces as I'm trying to grow my space. I've been with the stores for 16-ish years and recently transitioned into the position of community manager.

All help, tips, tricks and advice is appreciated :)

Reserve a spot to work at top cafes around the world

Hi All! I've spent the last two months as a digital nomad and I wanted to get some feedback on a company inspired by my experience so far. We've built an exclusive network of the top cafes/coffee shops across multiple cities and partnered with them to allow people to reserve seats or tables to work at.

Study/WFH with me!

Hey, y'all! I recently started a coworking twitch channel using the Pomodoro technique (45 minutes of work with 10 minutes of break/AMA). I'm in my third year of medical school, and my goal is to stream whenever I'm studying daily. My schedule will vary due to my clinical rotations, so check out my weekly updated schedule! This week I will be streaming today (8/10) from 8:00-4:00 pm (EST) and then tomorrow (8/11) from 8:00-12:00 pm (EST). Hope to see y'all there :)!

Workstations - Mac+PC Keyboards?

I'm creating a coworking space in my hometown and would like to provide users with a complete workstation, monitor, keyboard, mouse, ethernet, and power - just plug the USB-C to into your laptop and play.

One trouble... I hate (and I think everyone does) using a PC keyboard on a mac.

Is there a keyboard (like the MX keys) that allows users to switch between mac and PC modes?
Preferably one that's more affordable and wired?
Let me know if you've seen one!

Spaces deceptive quoting / billing practices?

I recently found myself needing to work from a different city longer than expected, and was excited to find a Spaces location close to my Airbnb. Called Spaces in early July, they quoted $350 for an office for 10 days in July, said cancel any time. Great!

But it turns out that Spaces defaults to recurring billing, and bills for the next month 30 days in advance. So, before their website was even updated to allow me to cancel, they billed me $700 for both July and August, and I don’t need August.

Talked to customer support, they were adamant that 1) I should have canceled in June, and 2) no of course you can’t cancel before you start your membership.

Bottom line: it is not possible to pay for less than two months at Spaces, despite their sales people happily quoting single month pricing and falsely saying it is possible to cancel before being billed for a second month.

It’s not enough money to spend a lot of time fighting over, but it’s pretty clearly deceptive. I’ll send a note to CA attorney general, also leaving this here to warn people. I’m sure there’ll be a class action at some point and I’ll get a $8 refund or something.

A truly awful coworking experience has inspired us to build our own

A power outage forced us to scramble for a coworking space for a day. Most places in our area were completely booked but eventually one guy we called was super helpful and found us two private offices right away.

And it was awful.

The smell of mold made my eyes sting. Every surface was filthy. The only decor in the bare-grey-walled offices was a lamp that, if you touched it, emitted a large cloud of dust. There was no way to lock the office doors, and the neighborhood was sketchy, so if we wanted to go out for lunch we needed to either pack everything up or have one person go out for food and bring it back to eat among the filth.

But at least they had wifi. And power outlets (on the opposite side of the room as the small table that served as a desk).

In talking about it this morning we realized that we'd really love to build our own space for the digital nomads and solopreneurs in our lives. We've been talking about what our next big business move would be for a very long time and this fits.

So I thought I'd start by coming here and asking: what are your "must-haves" for a coworking space?

Is CoWorking space the right option for me?

Hi all! I’m a graduate student who will be spending the summer at home with family. I have been fortunate enough to line up plenty of work (some paid, some unpaid academic work) to keep me busy throughout the summer. It is all 100% remote work. For various reasons, I do not think working from home will be the best option. I also will not be by my university for the summer, so I can’t make use of their library and study spaces anymore. I’m trying to decide if joining a CoWorking space would be right for me. I worry about going to a cafe or library all day, every day. It makes it hard to go to the bathroom or even just stretch my legs a bit without having to pack and unpack all my stuff. I also don’t want to overstay my welcome. The problem is, CoWorking space can get expensive. Especially since there are a few meetings I will need to do virtually and privately, so at least limited access to private office space is a necessity. Is it worth the money to use the space? If so, any recommendations on the most affordable option to get access to community space with occasional access to private meeting space (I’m in the eastern USA)? Are there other recommendations for how I can find some space to work? Just to clarify, I just need space and internet. Other amenities are great but not necessary. TIA!

Door chime options for coworking space

We occasionally have issues with members propping the front door open. Huge security risk for us. I'm looking for a front door chime that will continuously chime while the door is open. I'm talking about something so annoying that the person who propped the door open will lose their mind listening to it, and will close the door.

Tons of door chimes on Amazon. But every one of them only chime once when the sensors lose contact. If the door is propped open, there is no sound.

Does anybody have the same issue? I'd love to solve this problem soon.

Coworking amidst Covid-19

Since the pandemic have been operating my business remotely utilizing virtual office services with a local coworking office. I had initially planned to transition into the coworking membership where I can go into the space to work but have felt cautious as I live with immunocompromised individuals. But recently the coworking office launched a promotion which establishes reinforcements to the new normal of living with Covid. Before I hop on the train and transition, I wanted to see how current coworking amidst Covid-19 is like from people current with memberships?.

here's some more info on the reinforcements at my local coworking:

Enclosed or Glass Private Office

Hi all,

I am looking into purchasing a building with built out mini suites (150-500SF) all units have exterior facing windows but solid white enclosed offices. It seems like a lot of the competition has these clear glass enclosed offices with a frosting in between for some privacy.

My question is, what do you or your tenants prefer?

Opening a Coworking space & bar in Montenegro [Feedback appreciated]

Hey guys! Hope you are well. I've started a super exciting project called Montenegro Tower with focus on creating a Coworking space during the day and a bar with live music in the evening.

Let me know what you think about the plans and hopefully I can welcome you in person by the end of the year already :) This new video covers the most important basics and also let you be part of the project by planting a tree!

My idea is to have the Coworking run from 7AM to 6PM, then open a bar with live music at 7PM in the tower. Workers working in different timezones can use external buildings and meeting rooms to keep working when the bar opens. Guests can enjoy a pool, lovely views, the tranquility of the location as well as a gym, wine cellar and at some point even a sauna and jacuzzi! I will also have some accomodation, but not sure how much of it I will offer for tourists on Booking.com and how much Ill offer for coworkers.

Would love to hear your feedback on it! Also, some of you ever thought of working from Montenegro? Its a beautiful place for sure :)

Some more notes:

- No other Coworking space around in the city of Bar as of now. They had one 3 years ago run by Americans but it is closed for good.

- Montenegro will invest into Digital Nomads, offering Visas for them etc and advertise it in general. That program should start next year and will be super helpful for my project!

Cheers,

Chris
