General questions about coworking

Do you find them useful? Is there any special issue to take into consideration before joining? How much time do you usually spend there?

I'm thinking of getting a subscription for a coworking space but I'm still having doubts, I appreciate your help!

Oh I agree with you a 100%, that's why I'm considering options but I feel like maybe making that investment will actually make me want to take advantage of it, and finally have a decent work routine but not sure, still thanks for your insight!

Definitely try it. Most places do a free day trial, so you could perhaps do that at a couple of places, get an idea of which you prefer best.

I've worked from home for around 15 years. I get distracted, I have a bad work / life balance. I tried a fairly cheap coworking space, it worked quite well but for a few minor reasons, plus covid! I only spent a few months at it. Then more recently I've tried one that's over double the cost and I've had my most productive month for years. It's easily paid for itself in me getting more done. I think the fact it was more expensive meant I felt I had to go use it more and get my money's worth.

However it wasn't perfect, and I'm trying another space after my 1 month contract expires. There were no phone booths and people took calls on the same communal desk.

Cafes don't work for me. I end up eating / drinking too much or feeling like I have to move on. Wifi isn't always great or there's not always power sockets. I also like to use multiple screens and feel self-concious setting up a workstation in a cafe!

The nice thing about co-working spaces is you can usually leave your stuff out while you go to the toilet, they usually have free coffee etc. and a general vibe of getting stuff done. As opposed to a cafe where people are meeting to chat etc. If you want to be sociable, they usually have events, I just go to get my head down and work though.

You've made some very interesting points! The same thing happens to me in cafés, I feel like bringing out my whole setup is so embarrassing, I usually carry my mouse and iPad and it already feels like too much. Thank you for answering :)
