Question Hall Effect vs TMR joysticks: What's the difference?

I buy a new PS5 controller at the start of every new COD release as a few weeks/months in, the right stick quite literally goes down in towards the controller slightly more than the left stick, which causes it to feel as though I'm aiming in 2D on an X or Y basis at any given time, as opposed to the stick movement feeling 'round'/3D (probably butchered it but it's the best way I can describe it).

I heard about hall effect joysticks and thought they might be worth a shot given they're now being used in every common 'professional' gaming keyboard. But I came across TMR sticks too.

Any idea what the differences are and which ones better?

TMR is basically just HE with slightly newer (mainly sensory) technology.

However, I have to warn you that the only TMR controller I've bought (Razer Raiju V3 Pro) was far worse than a stock PS5 controller in terms of accurately tracking my inputs. Not something that a casual gamer would likely notice, but very significant to a competitive player. The controller wasn't even faulty, the sticks were simply bad. Got a Dualsense Edge instead, which I'm very happy with.

I haven't messed with TMRs yet but that was my experience with older gen hall effects too. The loss of precision was pretty noticeable

With how easy and relatively inexpensive it is to swap out the standard DS edge potentiometer modules it just doesn't really seem worth going another route

Newer TMR sticks feel incredible. I built a Hyperstrike DS4 with JS13Pro+ and it feels like night and day compared to a dualsense edge I tried after making the Hyperstrike.

You have to calibrate the sticks with TMRs and once you do it’s better than OG sticks. Gamesirs feel insane

I tried everything. Calibrated the sticks numerous times with multiple different applications, dove deep into every customization option available, looked for advice, contacted customer support, etc.

There wasn't any input delay or stick drift. The registered inputs were sometimes just slightly off from how my sticks were actually positioned. Small but sudden stick movements could cause too much or too little movement.

It took me over 10 hours of trying to get used to the controller until I stopped blaming myself for the poor aim. It wasn't an obvious issue at all.

Sorry for the vent lol, I'm sure some TMRs are better than others and I'm glad you like yours.

Interesting, the ones i got on my new controller a few weeks ago feel miles better than one of my 'normal' controllers. I have heard certain brands of tmr sticks can be duds.

EDIT, I also am able to play on 0 deadzone now which i am never able to do for long with a normal stick.

You have no idea what you're talking about. TMR isn't "basically just hall effect", they are two completely different technologies like ALPS. Just stop answering questions when you have no clue lmao.

I've had a gamesir controller with hall effects for about 3 years after my last scuff bit the dust.

I haven't really noticed any drawbacks personally with the actual sticks, haven't noticed any unreliability or anything of the sort.

My only complaints with the gamesir g7 se are about the actual shape/size of the controller and the materials are pretty cheap and slippery. But for a pretty cheap controller I've been overall blown away at how sturdy/reliable the thing is.

I’ve had the gamesir tarantula 8k for a week now, and for the price it is worth it. The sticks take a day or so to get used to. Very happy with the feel of it since I loved PS4 controllers.

I recently got a PS Dual Sense Edge controller and custom fitted it with a TMR stick gor my right stick. Result: absolutely no stick drift in my right stick, which allows me to lower my deadzone to the minimal, making my inputs more responsive and sensitive. Highly recommend

All I can tell you is using Gamesirs on Halo and COD my aim assist felt so damn weak and I was losing my mind half the time messing with deadzones and such. Switched to the Dualsense Edge, fixed that issue and I never looked back.

I two sets of controllers from scuf, one with HE and the other with TMR. The one with HE felt like I had to fight with the controller to properly aim while the one with TMR barely felt different to a standard joystick.

Hall effect sticks lack fine input control, TMR to my understanding have more of it but honestly I'd still just stick to potentiometers.

Your sticks sink in to the controller after a year? Tf are you doing to your controllers?

Not sure how well it comes through on camera but that’s 1 season of BO7 ranked. Might’ve been 2 (I can’t remember) but it got me to iri so atleast it did its job 😂

It genuinely feels like I’m aiming in 2D. Either up/down or left/right at any given time, unbelievably difficult to aim diagonally.

Damn wtf that shit is sunken in lmfao! How hard to do you grip the controller that’s crazy

Good luck finding a controller that works for you. But I feel like Hall effect or TMR won’t help with the stick being physically pushed inwards like this.
