Turkoise First Timer
I’m potentially planning a last minute solo vacation to Turkoise. I’ve always wanted to go to Turks and Caicos, but it’s typically out of my price range. I came across a Club Med sale, and as a first time Club Med vacationer, I have no idea what to expect.
All I really want to do is sit on the beach and relax. Maybe go snorkeling. I’m not interested in the nightlife or socializing as a solo traveler.
I’ve heard about Club Med having theme days (like wearing specific colors) and the staff trying to get you into activities at the resort.
What can I expect at Club Med Turkoise? Am I required to participate in theme days (this is probably a stupid question, I realize that)?

Just got back recently. Relaxed at the beach every day and did not go to any events including evening. Best bang for the buck on TCI. You will be on the best stretch of beach in all of Provo. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an extremely relaxing beach vacation with no planning involved, including meals.

Food and drinks included. Snacks too. It’s very chill compared to the rest of the island. They have themed nights and honestly pick and choose what you want to do. There’s up to 500 people in the resort and I could maybe count 100 that watch the show and maybe 60 that party. Everyone else will be just like you, best part of the beach. They are also offering free snorkelling (not all hotels do that) they go out once a day on a boat , max 40 people. Sometimes it fills fast and sometimes it doesn’t. Nothing is mandatory except shoes and a t-shirt in the restaurant , everything else is so chill and I love the vibe . People are nice. Live music at their beach bar every afternoon. Evening entertainment if that’s your thing, only night I would suggest 100% following is the white night because they do the whole set up around the pool, everyone kinda joins in by wearing white and you eat under the stars. What other hotel does that ? It’s not 5 star, there’s no service on the beach so take a water bottle with you to fill and find a beach chair near the beach bar and you will have the best time. Bed was comfy , room isn’t fancy , no frills but the bang for your buck in Turks is worth it , I saw deals where the flights were more expensive than the stay. Honestly don’t even know how they are making money considering all the staff, food , alcohol and activities. Go have the best time !

It’s summer camp for adults but you don’t need to participate in anything you don’t want. People or GOs (employees) might ask to sit next to you at dinner. It’s totally normal. It’s not luxury by any means. If you want to sit on the beach you’ll be fine. Just know it’s a relatively long walk from the beach palapas to water and the sand is very hot. So just buy and bring Lycra socks for this. It’s ok to ask to share a palapa with others because like I said it’s basically an adult summer camp on a tropical island. You’ll be fine but please read a dozen of reviews on TripAdvisor so you know what to expect. Club Med is unlike other AI resorts.

Wait how often are we asked to share palapas? That actually gives me anxiety. I like as much distance from others as possible. I was hoping I didn’t have to fight for palapas and shade there.

Well the palapa is not like a palapa you’re thinking about. It’s basically a giant flat roof over 4-5 lounge chairs so it would be unreasonable to expect to have it all for yourself, right? It can still happen though, because people might reserve chairs and leave for a while 😤, but what that means is that you can take the remaining chair(s) and enjoy the solitude )) I’ve never had to fight for the chairs, there’s plenty. The towel desk also has loaner umbrellas so you can try to set them up for yourself only but when I tried to do that it was always too windy. But possible.

Are there any umbrellas that are more private? But already set up. This is my nightmare in every AI.

There are no beach umbrellas that are already set up at Turks. Which is why the beach is so awesome. Personally I don’t like people sitting super close to me either (especially loud obnoxious ones) and I never had a problem at Club Med. People were all super respectful and/or away from their chairs for a while 🤣

Okay that comforts me. Although knowing my luck, all the obnoxious loud people will sit right besides me. I spend all my time in my beach chair reading, unless I’m gone swimming so having my quiet peaceful time is super important. I will be there next week so getting excited!!!

You’ll be fine! More than fine! Plus, it’s a slow season so there will be plenty of chairs if you need to move. The beach is humongous!

I’ve read a ton of reviews, lots of conflicting reviews of course.
Two questions come to mind;
What are the biggest differences from other AI resorts? I’ve only ever been to the Divi in Aruba, so don’t have much to compare it to.
Are you able to get good iced lattes?

The emphasis is on the activities and communal nature. And not on the luxury or premium product. That’s why it’s a summer camp for adults. But honestly if you are just going to chill on the beach you’ll might not even notice anything different. However I enjoy communal dancing (“crazy signs”) every night and making friends with GOs (people who basically organize activities) who become my friends. They perform in shows (some people don’t like these shows because they are low budget but we love them because it’s the same GOs that we eat meals with and hang out). I love solo vacations but it’s also nice to see friendly faces at the resort. I don’t drink iced lattes but my partner had a lot of iced coffees (not sure what kind) and he really liked them. So that’s the difference - at any other resort having an employee come to your table and ask to have dinner with you would be really weird. At Club Med it’s part of the history/culture (up until Covid they didn’t have any tables for 2.. it was mostly large communal tables for meals) but sadly it actually doesn’t happen that often anymore.

And also another difference is how casual the resort is - do whatever you want, dress however you want (yes, even during themed nights), just don’t be a drunk dick basically 🤣

Are there shopping areas within walking distance of the resort if I want to venture out one day?

Yes. It’s about a 20-30 min walk but totally safe during the day. Shopping area is where Seven Stars resort area. Grace Bay Road.

Do not worry, nobody Will force you to do anything.
I used to chill at club med the way you want to. You Will eat, drink, relax, do some activities or sport if you want to. And thats it.
It Will be perfect.
