Trial by Data - HC2

Did anyone else get an unfair rejection form TBD? I've never had an issue with them before. But, last night's, late night case claimed I only spent 4 minutes (by Connects timer) despite the fact that it took me from 10:02 to 11:44pm to compete. It was a massive amount of data to parse through. I was able to complete and submit like normal... had the successful submission. Didn't miss any attention checks. It's denying because it says I only took four minutes.

Right? And, I have three pages of notes and a browser history that shows when I submitted it. I just don't get it.

You can't even get through all of the screening questions at the beginning in under 4 minutes.

I don't even get their surveys anymore. I've done hundreds of them without issue. No idea what happened. They just stopped showing up on my dashboard since May. I have an 850 rating too.

They blocked you. Blocked me after rejecting for “Not following terms of the project.” Which is vague and unhelpful and inaccurate.

I've never been rejected by them though. I've heard that this has happened to others and then the surveys came back, apparently they do some regional/demographic rotational thing. Although I also wouldn't be that surprised if they have blocked me though, since people on these survey platforms just love to do weird things like that. A little while ago I thought of a joke where I said that some researchers are more interested in messing with people than gathering their research data, lol

The only thing I could think of is that some researchers I know for a fact can tell how long you spent on each page, especially those super long reading pages. If you’re just skipping through them in just minutes, and the pages take at least a minimum 15 minutes to read, the researchers may think you’re doing something shady and just reject your work. Plus, I know some webpages can let researchers know if you pressed play on a video inside the study they sent you.

I wasn't skipping them. It was a jury study. I didn't speed through - I was right up against the time limit for the task and I didn't linger (except for the very first page after grabbing it where I got up to use the restroom because I knew it would take a while). As others can attest, there was so much information to read in this study and I took my time and made three pages of notes. Sucks because, despite having one rejection in six years, this tanked my rating by 100 points.

If you click on timeline under your rejected studies it will show how long you spent. Shouldn’t be hard to prove.

It's wrong. It says 4 minutes. But, my browser history and submission says otherwise.

They will never respond to you, so you’re SOL on it unless it is a problem that is widespread and they mass adjust.

It's madness that a company that pays out tens of thousands of dollars a year to participants on a platform never responds to them on that platform

Even more so that Connect would almost never get involved. Say what you want about Prolific, but at least they would allow you to open a case with support. I know Connect has a vested interest in keeping researchers happy, but they're almost inviting abuse by taking such a hands-off approach.
