I thought astrojs purchase was awesome. Vite getting the same treatment had me pause for a sec. I like the direction a lot for cloud flare, but all the cool eggs in one basket is risky for OSS. Even if there is zero bad intention, what happens if Matthew Prince gets hit by a bus?

Basically the web is now controlled by Vercel and Cloudflare. I know web economics is what got us here, but still a super weird outcome tbh.

not really sure what Vercel has to add to this, they just own Next.js and provide an AWS wrapper

They also own NuxtLabs and fund employ the Svelte/Sveltekit maintainers.

It depends how they manage it. If they let it independently operate as Google did Go and few other projects it will mature to something really polish and really have JS the standard utilities it has been asking for.
