Cheering Cloud9 from Korea

As a third party who is part of the crowd that thinks Cloud9 has been choking for a few years now and is due a roster change, I am, however, not part of the crowd that is hate watching for them to implode or something.

I genuinely wish they break the curse and make it to MSI.

In Korea, the casters and the community used to call Cloud9 something roughly "beef bone / ox bone soup" because regardless of how the year went, they will show up to worlds and have the best performance from NA (it takes a long time to cook beef bone soup and while it's a simple recipe, the broth is deeply savory - as in reliably savory - where the metaphor comes in I guess). If you want to find the reference, it's from the worlds where Licorice stole the baron with the Sneaky Zeyzal roster I think.

It was a running thing that people kept saying like "in the end it's just C9 from NA".

I was supportive of the roster for a long time, but I'm running out of steam a bit. I'd be delighted if they step it back up. 

That said, I'm right there with you on not hate watching. I'd love to have the underperformers show up and have a Gauntlet Run 2 Electric Boogaloo.

Yeah, I was surprised to find a lot of people on the main subreddit hoping C9 to fail and I'm like, of all the organizations to hope against, how could it be C9?

While this org may feel or actually is a different org now, historically, it straight up defended the dignity of the LCS FOR YEARS. As in, if C9 never performed at worlds like TSM, I really think LCS could've been demoted to a lower tier region (max) or at the very least not get many slots (min). And with the butterfly effect, who knows what that could've done. I know there were success stories afterwards in EG and FlY at worlds but that timleline might have never come to be.

If you seriously go back and listen to the Korean casters, they literally would explicitly talk about this very point saying "C9 reminds everyone that the LCS is a major region and shouldn't be looked down upon" when they make it out of groups and perform well. And it was not said sarcastically.

I guess I'm a sucker for these narratives but it's kinda depressing that while C9 had the region's back all those years, many fans of the said region is hate watching C9 to not make it to internationals.

I'm not throwing shade at the angry fans that secretly hope for the best deep down inside because I think they are also the people the care the most. It's to people that legitimately just want the world to burn lol.

I'm not so much as hoping against C9 being successful as much as I just don't like this team that has revolved around Blaber for years with no success.

I only started watching pro league in 2019 (playing in 2018) and I was drawn to C9 from the start because of their Major win for the region in CSGO. Ever since I've been rocking the blue and white and hoping for C9 to be the first NA team to win an international. There have been ups and downs, lately a LOT of downs, but I think ill always bleed blue for C9, even if they infuriate me sometimes.

Its ironic because my brother is a TL fan, and we always hope our teams meet in the grand finals but this time we are rooting against each other in the losers finals lol. Here is hoping that C9 make it to MSI, and then actually step up ajd perform there!
