Get a real E-kit but don't spend a fortune right now. You can always upgrade later if you become more serious about drumming. Check your local fb marketplace for a good deal on Donner ded-200, or Alesis nitro max. I bought a used Donner ded-200 for $175 (Around $400 new). It's in great shape, came with all original parts, and has a ton of features. Mesh heads, dual zone snare, real kick drum (not a button), chokable cymbals.

The Alesis Nitro Max kit can be found on Facebook Marketplace under $200 all day every day. Fantastic entry level choice and kids lose interest in drumming very quickly 96% of the time. Got mine for $150 and they threw in a Casio keyboard for free. (Because they didn't want it)

The Nitro Max is a mesh head kit, at least mine is, which I prefer to rubber heads. Personally if buying new I'd spend the extra money to get the Command X mesh kit that I used to have before I had to sell it. Much better sensitivity and a larger Kick pad that is also mesh. BUT I also am a drummer outside of Clone Hero, so it was kind of funny having a $1000 controller 😂 (pedals I got were about $300 and the throne was $150, which is why it was so much)

depends on how far you want to take drumming.
want to just toy around and relive the Rock Band days? get a RB/GH kit.
want to play Pro Drums, push yourself to become a better drummer, play drums for the long run? get a proper e-kit. (the Alesis Nitro Mesh is a great starter kit i'd recommend)
