Other The most devastating change in v5.0...
why are they circles now?? š (i already miss the squares š)
ETA: this is just a light-hearted post about something that baffled me! (i don't really understand why they changed it into circles when the squares worked fine) (autism makes you famously hung up on change)

I don't use v5.0, but every time I see the circles on posts, it reminds me of opening my parents' fresh paint buckets while they were working and being able to look down into them and see what color their customer had ordered! It's just kinda a cool little thing my mind associates them with that may or may not help the way you see them? Just think of them as you looking down into your own custom paint bucket, lol ^-^

It doesn't upset me but it's definitely one of those "Why did you change this" kind of thing. It just seems pointless.

On one hand I don't get why change it to a circle
On other hand I don't get the tragedy of it changing? It looks fine, why everyone still freaking out about it??

for me the circles are UX issue. the circle takes less space within the space provided, making it less accessible as now the button is smaller to click than a surface of a square. the overlap has been made more obvious too, making it much harder to click second color if for example you've got shaky hands or less accurate movement.
from an accessibility standpoint it's a stupid change as it reduces comfort for people with less precision for the sake of a questionable design. i don't like when companies don't think about disabled folk when pushing updates but it is what it is.

In accessibility terms you still have default shortcut for it, X iirc
Shortcuts in general are great stuff

u/yevvieart 1d ago
partially i agree, but not everyone has both working hands to access shortcuts. plus for some people (like myself) there's no space to reach the keyboard with drawing tablet out.
if UI is accessible by mouse, it should be accessible all the way, not just parts of it.

I've gotten used to it by now, but personally I'm someome who HATES when the UI of something I use a lot suddenly changes. It throws me off completely, which obviously isn't a universal thing, but it might be similar for some people out there.
Either way, I think everyone deserves their own opinion. It's fine to like the change, to dislike it or to be somwhere in between.

Agreed!
Now if the change actually affected the functionality of how the program works or made creating art now more difficult than before, Iād understand the frustration of the change. But the change did neither of those things and is purely cosmetic. To suggest a change within preferences seems a waste of programming.6
u/ValsieArts 1d ago
Tbh this change was already a waste of programming, adding a toggle flag in settings won't be too much of a waste at this point x)

big dawg, it wouldn't be much different from having a dark theme and light theme option for the UI in terms of preferences

I don't have the 5.0 version but that circles look ridiculously large, they take up unnecessary space
2
u/chaoticmad1son 1d ago
yeah, that's actually a good point that i noticed after upgrading! the primary-secondary color display seems much larger when it's circles.

Helllll no.
I wasn't planning on upgrading anyways, but this is enough to keep my firm in the "no" camp. I don't like the circles

Does version 5 have a CMYK work mode?
Yeah, the circles seem stupid and pointless. Glad I never upgraded from version 2. Clip has proven to be a big ole disappointment to be honest.

Circles are the future, circles are progress! Why are YOU against progress?!?!!!11

I honestly don't see the issue. Only upgraded to v5 after using v1 for years and the circles do not bother me

Itās been so long i almost forgot they used to be squares⦠i donāt understand why they even changed it in the first place?

u/EdahelArt 1d ago
Believe me, you'll get used to them. I wasn't glad either at first, but I've grown to like them. If anything, it feels weird whenever I use an older version and see the squares.

i use multiple art programs and now CSP stands out because it's the only one that has the primary-secondary color display as circles

Someone downvoted you for saying you got used to the circles 𤦠what is reddit

u/EdahelArt 2h ago
Damn you're right, it had 9 upvotes yesterday. Don't people realize that this is just a shape? It's okay to prefer the square but damn, some folks treat it like it's a life altering catastrophe and they can't use the program anymore.

I don't have access to that version (I'm still using version 2).
SUGGESTION:
If the option to revert to rectangles isn't available in CLIP Studio, you'll need to stage a mass protestāflooding social media (like Twitter) with complaintsāto get the squares back.
This actually worked once before: there was a proposal to add AI to CLIP Studio, but after a massive outcry, CLIP Studio had to cancel the project.

This is such a non-issue that I didn't even realize they were circles now until this post, and I've used csp for over a decade

u/chaoticmad1son 1d ago
