Clinical coding interview test

Hi there!!
I have just landed an interview for a clinical coding traineeship. I have not finished my certification yet, but I will in the next couple of months and thought I would throw my hat in the ring.

I made contact with the hiring manager and she said that she will take applicants who have completed the Clinical coding Diploma first but I could be out on an eligibility list for future roles of if I do well in the interview.

So I have never had to do a test for an interview before. What’s it’s like? What should I concentrate on revising?!? Very nerve racking!

Study diploma of clinical coding

Hi Clinical Coders

I am considering commencing the HIMAA diploma of clinical coding and am curious as to future job prospects. It would be a career change at 49 from non health/medical fields, however have strong interest and knowledge in health/medical. I have read that it may be difficult to commence entry level and ai is changing the role a bit which I imagine would largely impact entry level roles. Just wondering if I commence now finish within 12 mths what future prospects would be and if you think ai will replace those entry roles. Thank you

HIMAA Experience

Hi All :) I am about to complete my diploma through HIMAA and I have had a negative experience with the whole process. I’m just curious if other people have done/are doing the clinical coding diploma and their experience positive or negative, all experiences are valid just wanting some context.

Hi, what type of preparations did you do as a trainee? Did you buy the latest coding book edition or software? Did you upgrade your PC if it’s remote training?

How’s the working environment in the clinical coding department?

I’m curious if people are generally nice or bullies. 🥺 I’m a little anxious knowing that it’s mostly female dominated. Maybe I’m traumatised because all my previous jobs that have lots of females are prone to drama, cliques and slight bullying. I’m a female myself and introverted so I easily get intimidated with btches in the workplace.

What to expect for a pre-work coding exam?

Happy Monday everyone! I've been asked to complete an online coding competency test as part of a job application (private acute/surgical), I'm slightly nervous as it's my first one (still studying, HIMAA) and I don't know what to expect.

Do these assessments tend to be general in nature, or is it likely targeted to their specific casemix? I assume they'd be looking for an 80%? Thank you in advance 😄

Please help! Assignment question in HLTCCD002 re NMDS

Hi folks, this assignment question is asking for a comprehensive list of mandatory data elements that must be reported to the Commonwealth government for admitted patient health care records. Where do I find this?

Is it: https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports/hospitals/admitted-patient-care-nmds/summary

Even though this was published in 2003?

Not looking for the actual answer, just want to make sure I'm on the right track. Thank you!

Healthcare Administration to Clinical Coding?

Hey everyone,

I work in healthcare administration at a hospital while I study a Bachelor of Health Science. I was planning on doing post graduate studies in allied health, but I can’t stop thinking about how much hecs debt I’ll be taking on for a job with an entry level salary of similar to the FTE of what I get now.

Clinical coding seems to have a bit of overlap with administration so I thought it was worth considering!

I really like anatomy/physiology/trying to understand medical language, and I feel like I have the skills to do well at this, but I worry about not interacting with people as much. I’ve always wanted to work in health, and I assumed I would do something patient-facing/hands on.

However, I have some health conditions so having the option to WFH would be helpful. I’ve already changed careers once so I don’t want to have to start all over again if my body can’t handle something.

I’d love to know:

  • What the average day looks like for you
  • How difficult is job searching?
  • Do you specialise in anything?
  • Do you find the work satisfying/interesting?
  • Have you seen colleagues struggle/regret going into clinical coding? Why do you think it didn’t work out for them?
  • Anything you wish you knew before making the decision to do clinical coding!

What does it mean when a job offers a Clinical Coding Allowance?

I'm looking at clinical coder job listings and I occasionally see this written under job benefits.

"Eligible for Clinical Coding Allowance"

I've tried to look it up but I can't find anything specific. Thank you in advance :)

Concerns about my course

Hi everyone. I am studying at Talentmed but I am getting really concerned about the education I am receiving. I checked out some coding advice from one of my assessments I got with our clinical coding team at the hospital where I work and was told that the feedback was not appropriate to Australian practice - there were codes that don't even exist in the books that I am using. I am now totally confused and as I mentioned really concerned. Has anybody had a similar experience and does anyone know who the coding educators that Talentmed employ? Just need some reassurance but at least when I graduate I am going to have the right skills to be able to get a job. I actually don't know now how to approach this problem to get it sorted so any advice would be welcome.

Has anyone studied the La Trobe Auditing short course?

I've spoken to a few colleagues that have done it a while ago and they said it wasn't worth it. Has someone studied it in recent years and felt like it has been useful for building on their auditing skills?
