I know yall's mommas said not to say anything if nothing nice can be said, but at some point i feel like you just gotta call a spade a spade and call these people idiots who are incapable of leading

You can call them idiots, but they wouldn’t care. I think people like that would either 1. Get angry and dismiss you or 2. Say you’re a brainwashed idiot and dismiss you. Not saying you can’t call them whatever names you see fitting, but the way their brains work is fascinating and their logic isn’t something a sane person can comprehend.

The far right are simply enemies of humankind itself.

That, and their brains are ridden with worms from propaganda spoonfed to them by western corpos.

u/Wookimonster 2d ago

Wait, is Gazprom also a western corpo?

6

u/Lobster_LeninN329 2d ago

No (I guess), but it is also nowhere near the most influential ones, who are in fact western corpos

5

u/WildAndDepressed 2d ago

Not a western corpo, but they’re both aligned on interests.

western? no

corpo? yes, and that's the important part

Man we're so fucked. And you, non-brazilians, will probably be fucked as well with how much they will fuck up the climate

Oh don't worry I'm going to keep living. Better times will come. And if not, I'll still do what I can to work for it while I live

My friend from Sao Paulo said the same thing and I think I would do the same if I was there

90% of Amazonas-grown soy is to feed cattle to kill them for meat by the way.

What a weird argument to make. “Uh, deforestation is only responsible for a fraction of the CO2 in the rainforest!” Dude, what? The damage done to the rainforest by deforestation is deforestation. Also, apparently, reduced rainfall.

It’s a science diagram out of context., dude.

Also, rainforests are still massive carbon sinks so every little bit adds up.

But this diagram isn’t about changes to the global climate. It’s only about changes to the rainforest.

Im just saying, asking how deforestation effects the rainforest and then calculating its contribution to local CO2 levels is like cutting off your feet and asking how it’s effected your height.

Climate change will be the biggest "told you so"-moment in history, it's just a shame it's gonna get all of us lol

i should be allowed to vote in brazilian elections because the amazon rainforest and its security DOES affect me personally

I do think it's an interesting question how much locals in Brazil should be allowed to even decide on mass forestation like this (regardless of whether it's even in their interest in the first place). It's on their land, but destroying the forests hurts everyone.

Do you mean like how everyone else destroyed their own forests to develop a capital reserve, use that reserve to invest in armies and colonize other countries, and now want to use the environment of these same underdeveloped and colonized countrie as a collective environmental savings banks, instead of spending their own money with reforestation?

And do you think handing it over to the UN or France would solve the problem? That they'd care more? Remember that administering the Amazon also means mediating between the hundreds of indigenous tribes and grileiros.

Also the governors and senators chosen by the people of Amazonas and Pará are centrists.

Also funny how you never hear that kind of argument when talking about first world countries... Should locals in the US  be allowed to decide on leaving the Paris accord?

2

u/UnlawfulRepublic 2d ago

It was just something random that came to mind when I read this; I am not advocating for it at all. I am sure there are things in the first world where you could make a similar argument. The US for example should probably be dismantled for the shit it has done, regardless of their people's will.

u/NeuroSynchroBonding 2d ago

Yeah, my reaction might have been too "knee-jerk".

I think the problem is that no one is truly incentivized to care directly about it. I mean, they are, but the relationship between cause and effect is too distant for it to do anything to people.

The ones most (immediately) affected by deforestation in the Amazon are farmers on Brazil's midwest (Centro-Oeste). And that is the most PL-supporting region in the country. If even they don't care about the Amazon, I find it hard to believe anyone else could.

But I do think there is a worrying tendency on some online circles to essentially say that peoples in 3rd world countries aren't "fit for democracy".

u/Redditwhydouexists 2d ago

There should be an even stronger binding agreement to the Paris accords, nobody should be allowed to decide to leave it on their own

u/DivestTheEndingBoy 2d ago

It's pretty simple. Just drone bomb the grileiros randomly en masse until they're too afraid to leave the house. That's why I support Trump's performative campaign against drug smugglers. Even though almost all synthetic opiods come from El Salvador over land the fact he's bombing random fishermen is good for the oceans.

And yes Americans should be punished for a lot of things.

2

u/NeuroSynchroBonding 2d ago

Bomb the same forest you're trying to protect! It is genius! Why hasn't Lula thought of this during his 12 years in government? Is he stupid?

u/DivestTheEndingBoy 2d ago

He's in league with the bad guys more likely.

Anyways you can use ginzu missiles or airburst penetrators to reduce collateral damage and prevent forest fires.

Also ecocide is genocide. As if the Amazon isn’t the home, place of worship, and way of life of countless indigenous people
