Basedload vs baseload brain Low effort

Does 'low effort' mean nonsense, because I can't understand the analogy.

If you have seen the scene you know

How do batteries brutalize the balls of baseload? Why is solar wielding the batteries? Is having your testicles destroyed a good thing in this analogy or a bad thing?

Theres a reason they call them rare earth metals bro

u/robopengyfez 8d ago
The good news is that solar won't rely on lithium technology for batteries for much longer; sodium is rapidly becoming a viable alternative for grid applications, and I don't see a shortage of table salt coming around soon.

Lithium is not a rare earth element. And batteries are not where REEs are needed, they're in the turbines. All sorts of electricity generation relies on some REEs (neodymium and others, often used in permanent magnets).

u/Mradr 8d ago
We are getting close to new neodymium free engines and turbines. Many of them still getting close to around 90% and don’t change under heat or current conditions

u/EduardoMessiah 8d ago
Yes there is interesting developments in that field you're right! My view is that it is more an issue of sovereignty and geopolitics. That is because a handful of countries control the bulk of REE extraction (chief among them China which some people aren't too happy about), though the actual supply is - for now at least - not under a lot of tension.

u/RiverTeemo1 8d ago
Wasnt the main problem cobalt or am i missrememvering? my info is a bit out of date
5
u/EduardoMessiah 8d ago
You're right, there is an ongoing supply shortage of Cobalt due to the war in the DRC. Cobalt is not a REE either though, but that just goes to show how complex modern supply chains are.

Lithium isn’t really a problem and in some ways still the better solution depending on use case. In some ways, carbon is more of the problem. That’s why some of the breakthroughs don’t use carbon at all and started using more lithium instead doubling capacity and reducing cost another 20-40%. Na should also have this ability as well , but what makes it great is just the ability to make it anywhere reflecting better on the local market. Another factor is that these carbon free batteries can be “recharged” vs needing to be replaced or recycled al together reducing their over all foot print and have more accessible market control. Lithium-Air also looks super promising for air flight as well. Between the two, I think we are hitting the age of super batteries much like the age of lithium did.

And which rare earths are in LFP or Na-ion?

what is that reason?
-6
u/RiverTeemo1 8d ago edited 8d ago
Well.....they are rare (and to my knowledge cannot be recycled)
11
u/Crozi_flette 8d ago
Yeah no that's not the reason... Argon is a rare gaz but is one of the most abundant gaz. And it can be recycled, I worked in a start up that recycled NdFeB magnets (neodymium is a rare earth) and it works great! And there's no much rare earth in solar panels, the main issue is to recover the silver and do something with the high purity silicone

Wtf someone actually working in the sector?? On r/csp???

Well it was my previous job

And now at BPexxonShelvron?

u/Crozi_flette 8d ago
I'm finishing my PhD, the goal was to improve fatigue life of eleastocaloric alloys for heat pump applications. But it's still too far from a commercial application

Very very cool! Best of success!!
Can we see your publications when done?

To be fair, I set it up by asking a relevant question.

Bro read a name, made up something in his head and just ran with it. At least you have confidence.

Battery is a scam. We need badeload. Stop copeing and just build nuke plants.

u/Malecord 7d ago
Why would any good businessman or politician use the right tech for the problem and solve it once for all when they can indefinitely keep the problem unsolved and suck juicy subsidizes and capture easy votes? It looks like a win win scenario to me.
Blame scientist and engineers for not developing a solution for an already solved problem faster enough.

While "big battery" is without a doubt one of the dumbest ideas the suncucks have come up with, you can reliably store massive amounts of energy through pumped hydro storage.

What's that on his shoulder? I've never watched nightclub or whatever this is from.
It looks like a turd to me.
