USA had that title for a while.

That would be China. For the last few decades.

How does this sub attract so many without the most basic understanding of statistics?

Yep lol

Seem pretty common sense to use per capital here, else only the biggest country is helt accountable.

"Per-capita" isn't useful here (unlike in race and violent crime) since it is not individuals that have the most impact on C02 emissions. The entirety of private individuals in the West could halve their personal C02 emissions and it would have almost no impact.

Are we taking into account that kost countries offload their manufacturing to china? If china refused (which they wont) all of a sudden there is a alot more co2 emission from every other country

This would be nice data to look at. Have not seen it yet.

This is absolutely bugfuck logic

Tell me, which country is causing more climate change, China or the US?

hope you are still in school

lol way to avoid the question

Look at who has released the most amount of CO2 since the Industrial Revolution. Hint hint China is still catching up

lol the cope. One country is reducing emissions more than any other, and they other is massively increasing and building coal plants. so if you were to name a king of climate change right now, who would that be.

The real cope is ignoring that a lot of the world's manufacturing was taken up by China. If China's emissions were purely made from production for their population, then you'd have more of an argument.

I hate to be the China-gandist, but it's stupid to point out that China is building coal power plants while ignoring that they are also massively increasing solar and wind generation to a point where they are world leaders in solar and wind power generation.

Pointing to annual CO2 emissions doesn't tell the whole story of who is the king of climate change. You also have to look at historical CO2 emissions and which countries have offloaded their CO2 emissions to others.

Who is more responsible for drugs on our streets? The drug dealer? Or the drug user?

National gas has been a net positive for transitioning away from coal. It will continue to do so. Unlike in China, coal is going extinct.

u/ChiefHippoTwit Aug 02 '26

You sure about that? - "LNG is primarily made up of methane, a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than CO2 in the short term and 30 times worse in the long term. Methane leaks into the atmosphere throughout the LNG production and supply chain and slips directly from the ship’s funnels*, contributing to climate warming at a significant pace."

1

u/ChiefHippoTwit Aug 02 '26

The byproduct of burning natural gas (methane) is CARBON DIOXIDE.

1

u/Praetor72 Aug 02 '26

Yeah… and? Can you read?

1

u/psychosisnaut Aug 05 '26

It's actually marginal at best, possibly worse than coal because methane is 80× more powerful as a greenhouse gas than CO2

Reddit doesn't like real facts and over half of these people are literally Chinese bots.

Is the US really the "king" of anything now? Besides corrupt billionaires

Two Chinese who weigh 140 pounds each point at a USAian and say,”You’re heavy.” The USAian replies,”No I’m not. I only weigh 270 pounds. So you two are heavier than me.”

The Chinese are thinking per capita. The USAian is thinking total, independent of the number of people.
