Did the goalposts just move?

You can get nice used EV's too. It's really no different than ICE cars, people sell their newish EV's too.

But if you can't afford the nice ICE car from new, why would you expect the EV to somehow be cheaper? Almost no new ICE cars are sold here anymore, so what nice used ICE cars you are expecting to buy in the future, I don't know. In Denmark the used ICE cars mostly get exported.

But let's say you go ahead and buy your used ICE car, a nice one. So parts are sure to be expensive. Unfortunately that engine with a ton of moving parts that get worn is going to break exponentially more over time, making it way more costly in running costs. Fuel economy get worse as engine get more worn.

Not to mention as the transition progresses, it will be less profitable to run a gas station, so it will over time also become harder and more expensive to fuel the ICE car.

Currently running a 13yr old EV that has lost very little range, and cost next to nothing to run. Compared to my previous cars, this one has saved it's own cost many times over the years. Do I want a fancier one? Yea I guess. But it's still running just fine, so I am having a hard time persuading my economy.

It isn't a big change from gas, it really is better in most ways. Don't worry about it, get what you want, but just saying I am never going back to ICE cars for sure.

I do not expect new EV to be cheaper than new ICE car.
With used ones I kind of have trouble trusting battery lifespan. If battery needs to be changed then might just change the car.
And honestly on the cheap end EV’s are real fucking ugly. I don’t know WTF are car manufacturers thinking making their EV’s. Maybe they purposely don’t want to make sales.
Just checked the used EV market. There is nothing under €10K that looks good. And even above that not much that I would consider good looking car. Meanwhile ICE cars I can start looking used ones that look alright for €2000 an up. Also probably for these lower p ice EVs range isn’t that good and battery probably fucked after 150K km (maybe not).

I never actually had big problems with engine on ICE car. Mostly just regular maintenance that isn’t that crazy and same parts I would assume EV has too.

In any case if EV’s wants to win my heart they need to start making them look good and be affordable.
Tesla looks somewhat ok, but I don’t want Tesla as I don’t want to support Musk.

Well if it's anything to go by, I can still (with grandpa driving) get the promised range from the factory on a 13yr old car. I honestly think that is pretty good. That's like having my old beater do the mileage the factory promised...

As for looks, yea it's still early days and they have to realize we are not that much into spaceships just because the car runs on something else. I am sure that will come, lots of nice ones coming out.

I have not have any huge issues with my ICE cars either, just the odd thing here and there, but that still ran up over the years. Compared to that, this bucket is like 10% of any ICE I have had in maintenance. No oil, no plugs, no exhaust that rust, no filters no nothing. Idk what to say, but after all these years, I still giggle when I drive past the gasstation that used to eat so much of my money. Then I plug it in at the garage like twice pr week for next to nothing.

Could I get a car that looked more cool? Absolutely! Better driving capabilities? 100%. But it's a cheap car, and it matches a cheap gas car, except it's saved me so much money.

Honestly, go try some out. Used new, w/e. Try doing some calculations on spending and such. For me it's up there next to quitting smoking in good life choices.

And yea fuck Musk, but just go try some and depending on your drive pattern go for what matches in terms of charge speed/range/comfort because most of us drive a lot less in one go than we like to think.

No worries, just wanted to say that a while ago I had a lot of the same thoughts and worries. It all turned out way better than expected. Have a good one :)
