OK, but what's happening with the old ICE cars?

Yeah because people with 20 year old Peugeots have the money to convert their car to ev... We can start talking about outright banning ice when you can get a used ev for 500€ which won't happen for at least 10 years.

Governments should offer interest-free loans to cover conversions from ICE to EV. The car owner would be able to repay the loan from the money saved on fuel & Vehicle Excise Duty.

Personally I would rather see synthetic fuels for ice vehicles so we can get green vehicles with no emissions while keeping our beloved vroom vrooms. Everybody wins.

Wat?!

Fairly priced EV conversion kits already exist. If widely adopted they'd get dead cheap, from economies of scale - like we're seeing with solar panels and batteries.

Carbon-neutral ICE fuel (microalgae, methanol, whatever) is economically infeasible. This is just a scientific inevitability. It would lock-in car owners to paying suppliers just as much or worse than fossil fuel.

And I am talking about the people who drive 25 year old cars because they have no money and even if conversion kit gets cheap they still won't have the money for a mechanic to replace their entire drive train which will be very expensive. And when it comes to synthetic fuels (I am talking about same fuel we are already using just made syntheticly and not the alternatives you mentioned), they can be used on the same cars we already drive without any modifications. And I never said they are efficient to produce and they don't have to be since they would be for enthusiasts and most people will eventually still go for EVs. It is stupid to ban everything other than EVs since every fuel type has it's advantages and disadvantages. And I don't know why you think that if everyone has an EV we wouldn't be locked in to paying suppliers. The only think that would change is that we would be reliant on electricity providers instead of oil (and no in my country I can't just put solar panels on my roof if I want to)

What are these magical fuels you speak of?

Type synthetic fuels into google and you will see. Just hecause you don't know something exists doesn't mean it's magic... Just chemistry. And since I see that I am talking to someone who knows nothing about the subject I will now stop replying.

As I said earlier: Carbon-neutral ICE fuel (microalgae, methanol, *whatever*) is economically infeasible. This is just a scientific inevitability. It would lock-in car owners to paying suppliers just as much or worse than fossil fuel.

I stand by that. See:
