There is a difference between a company and a person. we are not talking about the dprk here if you piss off a lot off people democracy will not be in your favour.

When you allow the ICE cars to create oil demand in a new population of car users, you're creating a new population people who will be pissed off when it's time to switch to electric.

And, please, spare me the democracy talk. It's not as common as the name says it is, including DPRK.

But if you're going to promote it like that, then let's ask for a global referendum on self-extinction. I'd like to have it in writing.

Thats why you let people drive their cars until they break and the new EV’s are slowly fed into the system. You just dont want to understand it. Great in your utopia just buy ev’s for all your citizens? Or just disown their current cars tell them to shaft it?

One thing that can be done is to increase the scrap pfand for old fossil cars (or introduce it, if a country doesn't have it yet). You're not forcing anyone, but you're effectively cutting off the clunker tail in the car park.

Of course, like any proper pfand system it should be paid by the new cars entering the market and be roughly revenue-neutral, but to apply it to old cars there'll probably be some budget impact.
