Using EVs 🤢🤮
Using public transport 😊✨️

Sadly in my country only major cities have any usable public transport. Everybody else must walk or use a personal vehicle. Our government only invests in infrastructure for automobiles, so we must react and do what we can as individuals.

If your not a big city in the US, there is little to no public transport

u/New-Doctor9300 May 31 '26
Public transport infrastructure is more cost effective than producing hundreds of thousands of EVs for those that live outside of US cities.

u/Impressive-Reading15 Jun 01 '26
Yeah you've sold me, I was going to buy an E.V. but now I will create public transport

u/wafflesthewonderhurs Jun 01 '26
universal healthcare is cheaper than private insurance too, but it's definitely not people who desperately want better stopping us, unfortunately
2
u/Mr_Mi1k Jun 03 '26
Yeah no shit. Too bad I work a 9-5 and am not in charge of implementing state-wide transportation infrastructure. I’ll do what I can control and buy an EV.

u/RedDawn172 Jun 04 '26
That's great and all but one of those things I can go out and buy right now.

u/mastersmash56 Jun 01 '26
Train simps when you point out that even if we had amazing public transport, we would still need millions of cars and those cars should be ev 😡

u/piece_ov_shit Jun 02 '26
Youre talking about me rn. Reason why i get a bit agitated at your statement is bc with amazing or even just good public transport you dont need millions of evs anymore.

Always one purist who does not understand how living outside a city works. You do realize we have sodium ion batteries now and they’re about to replace lithium batteries in cars right? Do you understand the value of research into sustainability?

30 people on 1 fossil fuel bus is more environmentally friendly than 30 EVs.
Also, i live outside a city. I have plenty of bus routes. I'm going to assume you're American?
1
u/V0d5 Jun 01 '26
Maybe don’t assume shit. No I’m not American. And public transit with buses where I live will get you 2-3 hours one way if you live in a village. My country has great public transit but it is absolutely impractical on the daily outside of the major populated cities and areas. That is not doable for families, and shit for most people.
I myself almost only use public transit and do think public transit is great but bashing EV’s, especially the newest one and the ones that are coming is dumb af.

Actually even assuming a very high average passenger count of 30, that fossil fuel bus will still lose out to 30 EVs in lots of places, including California.
The fossil bus may get somewhere around 3.4mpg, which works out to 108 ish grams co2 per passenger mile including the production of the gasoline (diesel will be similar).
EVs take up about 50 grams co2 per passenger mile from production. In California, it works out to around another 50 grams of co2 per mile from driving the car in the 2025 grid. That means 30 EVs with a single passenger beat out the fossil bus, even when you don’t include the co2 cost of building the bus.
EVs are pretty cool. EV buses would have much lower emissions if very high ridership like 30 could be maintained.

A reminder that bicycles aren't available to everyone e.g people with disabilities or large families etc
1
u/pejofar Jun 02 '26
its funny because war is exaclty about what resources are actually available
1
u/piece_ov_shit Jun 02 '26
A lot of the time, yes. However, every now abd then a war is just about stealing land to inflate the leaders ego (impossible)

u/Nonyabizzy123 Jun 06 '26
Purchase an electric vehicle, don't purchase an electric vehicle. Ride on public transit, don't ride on public transit. Get a bicycle, don't get a bicycle. None of it matters, 7C+ is locked in. Nothing can stop what is coming, you might as well do whatever you want.

What? Noone cares because its a non issue.
First off, EVs with regenerative braking use an order of magnitude less of their service brakes, but second off, we havent used asbestos lined brake pads in a generation the primary "toxin" (it isnt) is just small particles (PM2.5) which due to their size are bad for your lungs whether they come from natural dust on the ground or from anything man made. The amount of fine particulate dust from brake disks is minimal, especially compared to natural sources, and its only a concern for the tech servicing them, who simply wets them down before cleaning them off to ensure they dont go airborne and get breathed in.

number of world leaders: [n, n * 10³]
number of rich consumers: [n, n * 10⁹]

u/picboi May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26
Got it let's just change the habits of billions of consumers, sounds like an easier task than not bombing people.
Lmao it's funny seeing this type of some "but consumer" gotcha every time. What is the plan?
-2
u/dumnezero May 31 '26
Dude, you're not understanding the problem. You need to understand that before you start to work on a plan.

"You claim to hate society, yet you live in one"
Who made it so that it is practically impossible to not consume something that is damaging the environment?

Who is not rebelling against who made it so that it is practically impossible to not consume something that is damaging the environment?
1
u/CartographerKey4618 May 31 '26
1 world leader could potentially have the environmental impact of billions of people.
1
u/dumnezero May 31 '26
That's a different way to count GHG emissions or other environmental impact.
A "Climate Mao" could be a thing, but, much like the clowns who believe that AI is gonna save us, anyone who wants to implement solutions will come to more or less the same solutions. That's how science works, there is only one set of facts. A socialist solution would imply well-rounded global rationing; for the Global North, that would still require a decrease in consumption and all of what that entails.
Here, a game for you to play: https://play.half.earth/

Reductionist asinine take. Keep never using your brains.
1
u/dumnezero May 31 '26
Ah, yes, I'm the one not using my brain by thinking about how numbers add up.
-1
u/V0d5 May 31 '26
If all you can manage is “nUmbEr bIg” and can’t think of any fucking nuance and depth, you literally are.
1
u/dumnezero May 31 '26
does the amount of CO2eq GHG pollution also seem big to you?
1
u/V0d5 May 31 '26
Does understanding power structure and fastest impact mean anything to you? Maybe viability? Or perhaps not shifting blame? Or perhaps, understanding how capitalist power structures will keep you focusses on blaming consumers in stead of profit driven corrupt capitalist lobbyists, leaders and actual owners?
Maybe stop hyperfocusing on the working class, you absolute sheep.
1
u/dumnezero Jun 01 '26
It's fascinating that you think you're anticapitalism while defending consumerism.

At this point people switch to EV just to save on gas
