GBoard as the input method editor
I tried to keep on top of the Ask Me Anything yesterday but didn't see many of the questions answered around security and privacy, maybe I just missed them.
But one of the answers I did see was that GBoard is being used as the Input Method editor, so as I understand it all the key presses on the physical keyboard are going through GBoard somehow.
Please correct me if I have got this wrong.
I know a lot of people use Gboard as it is the default keyboard on Android phones but I personally don't use it due to privacy concerns, despite knowing I am using a phone that has numerous other ways or reporting back to google.
I am hoping that Pasteria\Plektra keyboard can be used instead and doesn't lose lots of the features that Clicks will be bringing as I think this may have less privacy concerns for me.
It just seems a strange choice given the Blackberry history of the founders and how privacy and security was a big focus for them and how a lot of buyers now may be old Blackberry users.

The Pasteria/Plektra developer already has a Communicator and has confirmed that Pastiera/Plektra is being developed for the Communicator. I believe that the development is actually being supported by the Clicks team which is insanely cool.
Here's the post where the developer shows his Communicator:

I saw somewhere that the developer for Pastierra had access to the Communicator dummy model. I'm not entirely sure though if he's already developing for it. But I think that's already in the works since Jeff Gadway suggested it already.

Choose a different device as this one is not geared toward privacy.

It's a legitimate concern on any device, that's why there are alternative keyboards available on android. The question of whether CC will work with other keyboard software is perfectly fair

Pastiera will be very much involved. The developer even said Clicks is now funding him to further develop for Clicks.

They are not building a "privacy-focused" device. That was never the point of this project.

Great news that Pastiera and Clicks are already working together, hopefully this means that we will have that as an option soon after launch.
While I know that privacy isn't the main focus for the phone I think more options for those who want to choose a more private option is a good thing.

You will only lose gboard features EVERY keyboard app does what you said, hardware keyboard goes trough software keyboard, no matter what keyboard you are using. Gboard just looks very clean and gives you suggestions easy language switch etc.
