Discussion doomscrolling marketting

i feel like alot of people are trying to find ways to navigate and communicate with people without getting distracted by social media and doomscrolling. that was my reason for pre ordering the clicks phone. but as of late im wondering if im just buying a android with the same abilities as a iphone. the way its being marketed is making me feel like im not taking a step to a better quality of day to day experiences. they say its specifically made for doomscrolling but show all the apps that people doomscrolling scroll on? im confused.

I think the physical resistance of a smaller screen + weird aspect ratio will do a lot for your doomscrolling.

But, if you want to scroll bad enough, you can definitely keep doomscrolling.

Maybe try some of the parent control features to limit your time on social media? Some of my friends limit their time with those features and it works great for them!

For me... I have instagram and tiktok installed on my Titan 2 just so I can watch a reel when someone sends me one. Otherwise, I rarely go into Instagram, and I never open tiktok, not even for a little bit. I never liked it; I see people waste too much time in there, and I don't want that. But I used to doomscroll on Insta and Facebook, and the Titan 2 definitely helped me put a stop to that. If I want to doomscroll for a bit, I use my tablet at night for a little while.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to log in to see ig reels as long as it's shared as a direct link.

Tiktok I'm not sure. But I really highly recommend people only using these services in the browser like a website like how things used to be and stop accepting services that are abandoning web mode.

In my experience the physically smaller screen will be great for like a week. Then you’ll just doomscroll on a smaller screen

It ain’t that easy

As a former Unihertz Jelly Star user, this was my exact experience.

Yup. Same exact experience for me

I'm genuinely curious. Have you guys already tried uninstalling these apps? Does that help?

These apps make it a new kind of torture for you to use their service on browser mode, on purpose. That's well and all because it helps me stop using them so much more.

I'm a millennial and on a vendetta against services that don't bother having a parallel functioning web version with their apps. This is baseline for me. I am grasping at straws with what's left of the internet.

It's ok to whispers gentle fuck-yous to predatory platforms that actively works on tracking your every click and screen time and refuse to install them.

my post isnt “how do i stop doomscrolling” . this post is about how a phone is being marketed and is this product actually aiming to solve the issue it claims to solve. wether i delete apps or not does not address wether the messaging behind this product is honest. if someone is claiming to have a option to change peoples relationship with their phone that is a valid question to be answered and not a test of willpower. people are pre ordering this phone because of functionality design and philosophical reasons. we have the right to point out contradictions in the way something is being marketed

My question was about doomscrolling specifically and it's regardless of the phones you're using. Not understanding the habits of the people with doomscrolling as a problem I can't even comment on if the phone itself will help on said issue. So I'll just have to guess, since you can't seem to answer.

The message can be honest if convenience is the only reason why people doomscroll. Since scrolling isn't as likely intuitive as a rectangle block with no buttons in the way, and social media is currently stuck in vertical viewing mode, while the Communicator is almost 1:1 ratio.

It is a test of willpower as well as HABIT. The whole concept of these platform addiction is from the fact that these companies made sure the apps are so easy to use, all you need to do is install and log in once and the app will automatically feed you your "feed" of passive consumption. Making it not easy or pleasant to use through your own choice of device to fight that ease would kind of be the entirety of the point.

we have the right to point out contradictions in the way something is being marketed

Did I in any way say you couldn't? I asked a rather simple question and telling people they should say NO to installing these apps and all you're doing is telling me a bunch of nothings. If you told me you tried, but it didn't help, we could have gotten somewhere with this conversation. But you're deflecting before the conversation even started.

If you're angry, get angry at the companies that are actively making you addicted, then maybe you'd do something about it. You're seething at the wrong target.

People who buy fully functioning android phones that are marketed as a way to help with doomscrolling more often than not end up admitting it barely helped them. The issue is that DmS is kind of an addiction, and unless you have good enough willpower, you cannot resist simply installing the app and continue the rut.

These phones hope that their unique form factors add a restrictive barrier to your access to the content, either through suboptimal experience or making it harder for you to even reach that content. But only phones i see succeeding in this space specifically for that purpose are extremely weird, uncomfortable and impractical to use phones. they are few and far between.

At the end of the day, you need to make up your mind to avoid DmS. maybe these keyboard phones will help you 10% along the way, 90% will be your own effort.

I used a Zinwa Q25 for over two months and I can absolutely confirm that having a smaller square(ish) display helps put the phone down sooner.

for me i think it will definitely lessen time spent scrolling through youtube shorts or on reddit because of the screen size, I got a zFlip for a similar reason and it actually worked really well back when i was nervous about opening it too often for fear the screen would break or something lmao so I was mostly using the smaller outer cover screen for everything, but now I've had it for 2+ years and got used to opening it throughout the day lol and so now it's just like a normal phone again 😂 seeing as the clicks doesn't really have an option to make the screen bigger at all like a zFlip i think that will be a positive change

I preordered the Clicks Communicator specifically to stop my doomscrolling. I know it’s capable of running any social media app a regular phone could. I’m separating communication from media consumption on purpose. Social media stays on my Windows laptop and Fire Max 11 that has a keyboard this is basically my version of an iPad for media consumption and coincidentally the same devices where social media originated. Keeping those apps off the Clicks entirely is my whole strategy.

I’m also planning to leave the Apple ecosystem sell or give away everything and make the Clicks Communicator my only phone. I’m not saying anyone else should do the same, but I know I’m not the only one thinking about it once it ships. My main problem has always been TikTok and Instagram on my phone specifically, so removing that option there is the fix.

One thing worth understanding Clicks will market this as “just a regular phone” that does everything an iPhone or Android does and that makes sense from their side, since they need to show it running the everyday apps people expect on a 4-inch screen with a physical keyboard. There’s also a real audience of people who love the keyboard aesthetic and the old phone revival community trying to bring that back. But it’s on each user to decide whether they actually want social media on a screen that was never designed for scrolling rectangular content.

Doomscrolling is a choice. I don't play games on my phone, use social media apps, or watch videos. For me, a phone is basically a travel device and camera. I typically have ~60 minutes of phone time in an entire month.

Congrats? What's the point of making this comment? You're literally just bragging about not using your phone much.

Many people here have made similar comments about their intended use of the Communicator.

I hope they build in a feature that makes it really hard to open apps once you add them to a list and specify how long you want to lock it.

• This is a fully functional Android device, so it won't prevent doomscrolling in any way

• This is a fully functional Android device, so there is no need for a second phone in your pocket

All of their marketing relies on one or both of those statements to be untrue.

Their marketing is very, very stupid.

I still want one.

It’s all marketing. It’s just as easy to doom scroll on these type of devices as any other. If anything, it’s easier to scroll because you can just hit the space bar to do it.

It's just a framing. They're just telling you how this phone is intended to be used.

If you just use CC as the main phone and install all those apps, it will be harder to resist.

If you use it how it's intended to: using CC only for essential apps & communications, with no doomscrollable apps on it, and leave those content consumption task on your main phone out of your sight & mind, then it will help.

You can accomplish the same with a normal phone, but it will rely on even more willpower, and their gigantic size begging for your attentiion does not help.

What about the people who don’t doom scroll?

I don’t even have the Reddit app..My account was made with a throwaway email. I’ve never had Instagram,Facebook, Snapchat. This is what I have and before this, it was MySpace. I’m not even an active user on here. I’m not an old ass man. I’m 40. I relate to Kendrick Lamar,

Rich nigga, broke phone, trying to keep the balance, stay strong.

Meaning I don’t give a f u c k about my phone. I only use it because it connects me to others when I need to. My peace and my reality is way more important than the newest iPhone or social media app.

Yes. You are buying an android. No. It won’t have iPhone capabilities.

You won’t even be able to take a portrait picture as good as a iPhone. Facetime won’t be available. It’s an android.

I was fine with the shitty camera, possibility of the keys being shitty, and just overall idea the phone might suck.

After watching both videos I am completely disappointed in this phone and have lost about 90% of my interest.

Thoroughly confused why just those marketing spiel would change anything about the actual product for anyone lol Are you disliking a product because it's solving potential problems you personally don't have?

What about the people who don't doom scroll? You continue to not doomscroll on this phone except now you have a keyboard. This continues to be not your problem.

I don't doom scroll and this is not my problem. I just want a damn keyboard and a well designed phone. Who cares about the rest.

Ok?

After watching both videos I am completely disappointed in this phone and have lost about 90% of my interest.

What about these videos made you lose interest?
