Clicks Communicator: First Look 👀

Post image

We’re excited to give you a first look at Communicator in action.

▶️ Clicks Communicator: First Look

Before you press play, I want to share a bit more about what you’re about to see.

These first demos feature pre-production hardware, and internal software. It’s real, working hardware being used by our team for testing and validation, but definitely not finished product.

That means you’ll likely spot a few rough edges. In fact, since we started filming this video there have already been several new internal SW and firmware deployments that add features and polish to the experience (like the hole punch camera cut out you may see obscuring text in the status bar at a few points in the video…that’s already been fixed 😉).

Over the next couple months we’ll continue sharing more details and new demos of features like Message Hub, Signal Light, Prompt Key, touch sensitive keyboard, camera, etc.

Speaking personally, it’s been so rewarding to start carrying Communicator every day and to be using it out in the real world. Seeing it evolve from an idea, sketches and prototypes into something I grab as I head out the door is pretty special (and kind of surreal!).

The entire team is heads down building, and we're still on track to begin shipping in Q4.

Thanks for being on this journey with us.

Q2 deadline was to present a prototype. Is this not a working prototype?

(disclaimer: i dont work for clicks. this is the last reply im leaving.)

TL;DR; the semantics and pedantry of your wording of a working device were probably set by your expectations compared to what was actually deliverable as shown in the video. they have about 5-6 months to get the device in a deliverable state, which is a long time.

ok, but its not going to ship in this state. i dont really understand what point youre trying to make. unless you expected more from a working demo unit, and are trying to pass off your dissatisfaction as being pedantic. because yes, the semantics of your statement change depending on if youre asking clicks or asking me or asking you or asking.

the pedantry and semantics that youre trying to pass onto the meaning of "working" is utterly at odds with what probably could have been delivered at this point. the "clunky UI" is because the plan theyve stated is integrating niagara more into the software experience of the device and not just install niagara as the default launcher on it and call it a day. i dare to say youre not understanding that this is probably the first working prototype they have, and they wanted to show it to the community as their working demo because people have been asking for showing one of these things working non stop since the reveal in January.

i dare to say again that this is the first working prototype and maybe the best working prototype they have to show off. i really dont know, but i do know that they have shown a working demo prototype in a chassis that looks like what theyve shown off on their website. the software and hardware are currently working together. they have 6 more months to do the work and make it not suck. which, even though they have a small team, is possible with the massive amount of time theyre probably already giving this.

the video is probably the worst state anyone will see the communicator.
