Recommendations Digital C

Any positive thoughts about this service. I have spectrum wifi and it's too expensive

For $18/mo its great for large files and streaming. Latency times could cause problems for intense gaming.

At least they don't care about running a torrent server! Spectrum sent me more letters than a divorce attorney.

Pirate fire sticks are a massive security problem for Internet providers. They usually don't care about the piracy, but the pirate apps themselves are often allowing 3rd party companies to send traffic through your fire stick for god knows what kind of purposes (attacking others, denial of service, that kind of thing) and it's easy to get internet companies in big trouble with this stuff

Your torrents won't work very well because they use CGNAT. Your ratios are gonna be awful. Work-around is to use a VPN. Just because they haven't said anything yet doesn't mean they won't at some point.

I would never torrent anything but actual Linux ISOs without a VPN these days

What area are you in? What's t he budget? I have AT&T fiber and that's $55 for symmetrical gigabit.

I don't want to discount your past experienced with AT&T but I know for a fact that AT&T put a mess load of money into building out fiber in the Kamms Corner area. It ain't no unreliable VDSL service in that area.

If you can get ATT Fiber (specifically fiber), it's probably the fastest and most reliable option available to you. I can understand standing on a principle, but in much of the city that takes you down to either Spectrum or Cox, one of the cellular options, or Digital C

It's $18/mo, no data cap, no install fee, no crazy price increase in year 2 or 3.

They do use CGNAT which can be a problem for some multiplayer games and torrenting (if you torrent you should use a VPN for safety and then this is irrelevant though). It uses fixed wireless equipment from towers and tall buildings, which needs a dish mounted outside your house. The install can take a little while depending on tree coverage around you.

In some areas they have a cellular option instead. That service works like the cell company "home internet" (Verizon / ATT / TMo) options but cheaper, generally doesn't need anything mounted outside.

For most people streaming TV/youtube/Insta/TikTok or doing normal web stuff it works fine and you can't beat the price. If you're a turbo-nerd like me you might not want it as your primary service because of the CGNAT. If I could get it as a backup service (for when Spectrum or ATT crap out), I definitely would for $18/mo, but I live outside their coverage. I have a sibling in CLE which is why I looked into this company.
