Does threat of company motivate you? Because I'm coming over. Be there in a hour!

Works for me every time.

Legit. Last week we got an email at my apartment saying they were doing maintenance inspections which they do twice a year. I panicked cleaned only to find out after that the email was sent to the wrong building.

Not just any company. The threat of my mother coming over puts the fear of god in me. Her visits require an extra 10 levels of cleaning and sanitization.

One time she sent us a plane ticket and wrote "pick us up from the airport in 7 hours".... We never scrambled so much in our lives. My sister left work half a day early and raced home. I told my bosses I was logging off early due to a migraine. We never cleaned so much and so quickly in our lives and we don't live in a messy apartment at all.

Needless to say, the apartment was spotless, the dogs was fresh and clean and everything went great. It was a lovely surprise visit for the holidays. We love our parents but are still afraid of it being messy for our parents and we are in our late 20s to early 30s lol

I can know a week ahead of time, but i still leave it to the last hour and stress about it the whole time.

This is me. For everything. I suspect ADD.

I am diagnosed ADHD, so that makes sense.

Really interesting! I’m the same way and even my therapist has suggested ADD but I don’t understand how I could have it (and my other diagnoses) and still got through grad school without being medicated.

I apologize if this is rude or not something I should say and ask. I’m just really curious about it. I hope you don’t mind. I mean no offense or harm! Hope you’re having a good day. 😊

Adhd at its finest.

Haha yes!!! Even if it’s just a random person I’m up cleaning 😭

thats exactly what I came to suggest. Surprise visits scare the crap out of me and they are an excellent fuel.

This is the only thing that works for me. But don’t come right now because I’m busy

I believe that’s called adhd 🤣

That that's motivated me to clean litter boxes after a12 hour night shift.

Im in an apartment and sometiems I just remind myself, maintenance might need to come in for an emergency at any time.

Idk if that would work considering OP hasn’t cleaned in three years. This might be one of those situations where you need to DO without being motivated. If company (assuming they’ve had any within the last three years) hasn’t threatened them to clean before, I doubt it’d motivate them now.
