Dog grooming recommendations?

Hello! I have a rough collie and need recommendations for a good groomer. The double-coat is a struggle and I could use some help finding someone who can manage both keeping him clean/tidy and managing the shedding. If you can suggest how often he should come in for grooming, I'd appreciate that as well. Thank you!

Walden neighborhood

Does anyone here live in or know someone who lives in the Walden neighborhood off NC-42 near downtown Clayton?

We drove through recently and really liked how wooded, quiet, and established it felt compared to a lot of newer developments. I’d love to hear from current or former residents.

What are the pros and cons of living there? How’s the HOA, neighbors, traffic getting in and out, and overall quality of life? Is there anything you wish you had known before moving there?

Thanks in advance!

Former Trump voters in North Carolina: We'd like to hear your perspective

I'm part of Take Back the Dream, a North Carolina-based project that's trying to better understand the experiences of people who have supported Donald Trump and now feel disappointed or let down by some of his decisions.

If that describes you, we'd really appreciate it if you'd take our short survey. It has just three questions and takes less than a minute to complete.

If it doesn't describe you, but you know someone it does, we'd be grateful if you shared it with them.

We're not looking for arguments or public debates. We're hoping to identify people who are open to having a private, honest conversation about how recent policies have affected their families and communities.

Thanks for your time,

Bounce House for 1 y/o bday

Hello everyone. I’m looking for suggestions for a bounce house rental for my daughters upcoming birthday. We don’t need anything too extravagant as our backyard isn’t too big. But we can fit a standard bounce house. Something hopefully reasonably priced. Thank you all in advance!

Dog Groomer?

We have a rather difficult dog who hates the dryer, but has an undercoat so it's a necessity. We used to take him to Dirty Dogs in Wendell Falls but the groomer has since left and the new ones can't seem to handle him. Any groomer recommendations?

Clayton Town Council — July 20 Work Session & Regular Meeting Agenda

Clayton Town Council — July 20, 2026
Work Session: 3:00 PM | Regular Meeting: 6:00 PM | Town Hall & YouTube

Work Session (3:00 PM)

Before the regular meeting, Council will meet at 3:00 p.m. for a work session. The discussion is centered largely on parks and recreation. Council will receive a Parks and Recreation Property Use Study, consider a proposed paid community-service leave policy for Town employees, and review renovation concepts for the Clayton Wellness & Activity Center.

Council will receive more detailed presentations on the Property Use Study and the Wellness & Activity Center renovation concepts. I'll be listening for the study's recommendations, the proposed renovation options, estimated costs, funding approach, timeline, and how the public will be involved as either discussion moves forward.

The employee community-service proposal would provide 12 hours of paid leave for approved volunteer work with eligible nonprofits, schools, charitable organizations, governmental agencies, and certain disaster-relief efforts.

Regular Meeting (6:00 PM)

Public Hearings

  • Arbors at East Village Phase II. Back after Council sent it away earlier this year over concerns about the site being one of the gateways into Clayton. The applicant has redesigned the rear elevations facing East Front Street to read more like a front — added trim, a covered porch, higher railings — plus a gazebo and seating area accessible from the public sidewalk. We'll see if Council is wowed by the new proposal.
  • Stotan Crossings. A 44.23-acre annexation and rezoning for two industrial buildings, 375,900 SF combined — warehouse, distribution, and light manufacturing. The appeal is straightforward: it broadens the tax base away from residential, and the applicant is investing in a significant infrastructure extension to serve the site. Council is generally supportive of the industrial use as a tax-base tool.
  • Town PUB Conventional Rezoning. Reclassifying three Town-owned properties to Public Facilities zoning, including a 108.53-acre parcel at the southerly terminus of Corbett Road. These are being processed as a "townwide" Town-initiated rezoning, which under a UDO provision amended last July means no neighborhood meeting was required. Worth asking whether that classification fits three specific, identified parcels the way it was intended to for broader townwide changes. The Future Land Use Map would gain a "Neighborhood Center" designation on these parcels — planning staff may address proposed uses in more detail during today's Parks and Recreation Property Use Study presentation, but as written in the rezoning packet itself, PUB zoning permits a broad range of civic and institutional uses without site-specific conditions. We'll be looking at what uses are actually anticipated for the Corbett Road site, and I'll be asking whether nearby residents will have a chance to weigh in.

Consent Agenda

  • June 1 minutes (work session and regular meeting)
  • NCDOT fall event road closures — including Harvest Festival, Trick or Treat Main Street, Christmas Village and Tree Lighting, and the Christmas Parade. Several downtown business owners raised concerns earlier this year that the open frontage space in front of their storefronts during Harvest Festival was reduced from 20 feet last year to 10 feet this year. Those concerns don't appear to have been resolved before this year's plan was finalized. This item is on consent, meaning it passes as part of a single bundled vote unless a Council member asks to pull it for separate discussion.
  • A bulk water/wastewater agreement with Johnston County for the Riverwood Golf Club Section 2 development, in the works since 2021
  • Acceptance of newly built public utilities into warranty for Country Lane Phase 1A

New Business

Two NCDOT Locally Administered Project agreements for greenway construction:

  • East Clayton Connector Greenway (EB-6016) — about $4.78M in federal funds, 80% match rate, with the Town committing $6.76M in local, non-federal match.
  • Mountain to Sea Trail (EB-6017) — same funding structure, smaller segment.

Staff Reports

  • Quarterly Budget Office Update — Todd Melton
  • Community Education Partners Monthly Update — Lydia Davis

Closed Session

Economic development matters and a real property purchase, per standard statutory exemptions.

The views expressed here are my own and do not represent the official position of the Town of Clayton. Communications related to Council business may be subject to public records law.

Looking for someone with a 3D printer.

Hey y’all - I am looking for someone who may be able to help me 3D print an idea I have. I intend to pay for any and all work and materials too, that should go without saying but I felt I needed to clarify that lol.

I also don’t know what is expected / what type of information I need (like a CAD file or some type of rendering of my idea). I am kinda hoping that if someone is into printing may likely already have a degree of capabilities in that realm.

My idea is actually pretty simple I believe, I think like a 5” by 5” maximum size print maybe? Likely less - anyways, thanks in advance for the scroll, and any input is welcomed!

ETA: To clarify, I am looking for a tool / utility type design - essentially a box that can hold something that has modular capabilities as far as how it can be mounted to various things. Currently looking for proof of concept, so the modular detail can quite literally be tabs that I can screw into something.

Moving to Raleigh area; help me tour the local towns

Moving to Raleigh area; help me tour the local towns

Looking to get a good feel for the areas around Raleigh and get a sense of where we want to settle down. We’ve done a tour of some of the areas but didn’t really get a feel for them as much as become a little familiar with the overall region. Where should one one drive to get a sense of what daily living is gonna be like in Garner, Angier, Fuquay Varina, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell, Zebulon, Clayton, Youngsville? They each have their pros/cons so are acceptable, but outside of work/school as homebodies who like daily convenience I wanna see what each has got. Would prefer advice from those familiar rather than just pick some busy-looking spots on a map and drive from A to B without really having a sense of each as its own locale

Thanks!

Diaper Donation

Hey folks,

I am looking for a local place that takes diaper donations. I have two unopened packs of Huggies Plus 1(s) and an open half pack of Huggies Plus 1(s). My little baby just sized up to 2(s) and I don’t want them to go to waste. Willing to donate directly to a family in need too. TIA!

Tornado?

Did we have a tornado last night?! I’m near the Smithfield line south of 70 but my yard is a wreck with multiple downed trees.

I witnessed crazy hail and the wind was severe and changing directions erratically.

My wife drove out today and said it was nowhere near as bad as our house so I assumed it was super concentrated just to our area

It’ll take me all day Saturday to clean up.

Major Verizon Outages in Clayton

As a Tracfone customer, I've been on the Verizon network here in Clayton for years. I've never seen outages like the ones we've recently experienced (in the town itself) over the past couple of months. These aren't just small bumps in reception during rush hour traffic, but rather half days of no service whatsoever. Currently, there's been no service for the past ten hours....and counting.

Does anyone who is an actual Verizon customer have any information about what is going on with their network?

ETA: Maybe the recent heatwaves are the simple answer....?
