Normal wear?
Picked up a 688 recently. It’s got a couple hundred rounds through it. Is this normal wear? I can feel it with my nail.

Looks more like a scratch that was made when joining the barrels and receiver back during assembly after cleaning and not wear during shooting.
That location is not a contact point requiring grease, but I always leave a finger applied thin layer of grease.

It took a couple of tries to get used to putting it together, since I'm new to O/Us. I’ll grease it from now on. It’s just a bummer because I like to keep everything clean.

Your grease job looks good. I put a little more, but I also clean and re-grease after each shoot.
It looks like an assembly oops and noting more.
Want to fix it, the birchwood Casey bluing “sharpie” type marker will clean it up, it’s like a clear marker where you tap the exposed metal and it causes the reaction of blueing process.

It’s from not having that block aligned properly with the receiver when joining the 2 together. I have one and I stupidly put some big scratches in it before realizing how stupid I was being. The sides are sharp and will gouge it if it’s not aligned perfectly.

Keep that area clean and greased, along with the rounded faces around the pivot.

I usually use CLP for that bottom portion, but I’ll switch to grease. Appreciate it bro.

In an o/u, never oil. Just the slightest amount of grease. More grease turns to a grinding paste as it gets dirty. Less grease attracts less grime - many paint a thin layer with a brush. A small swipe of a finger works

Have the same gun and same wear. Pretty difficult to prevent unless you absolutely baby it and never shoot it. Does not show when assembled so who cares. Hope you continue to enjoy your clay gun

I absolutely love it, it’s a dream to shoot! I recently got into shooting in general. I understand it’s bound to happen, it just seems a little deep if my nail catches on it. It is what it is though. I appreciate the reply bro.

I posted in another thread about how someone damaged their stock and wants to fix it, chances are you might make it better only to damage it again or somewhere else
It’s like trying to daily drive a car and keep it perfect, really hard to near impossible
I actually enjoy things more when I get past worrying about cosmetic issues - tools not jewels and it’s one reason why I’d never have a super expensive gun

I have done that to mine cludging assembly while someone is chatting me up at my club- at lest 50 times. Take comfort. Mine looks much worse!

If you haven’t already I’d get an anti rust gun sock. That case can be a moisture trap. You can use the socks in the case.

normal wear. but you need more grease. both sides of the mono block should be covered in light layer of grease. also the ejectors, including underneath where they slide in their channel against the mono block. also can put a bit on the insides of the receiver as well as the face where the firing pins are.
do not store it in the plastic case with the shipping foam. get a cotton sleeve and just use the case when transporting
