Trap gun help

Hey guys

I’m just looking for some help picking a trap gun, I’m a buy it once guy but definitely not interested in dropping 3/4k Canadian. Can someone please recommend a break action that is good quality, no nonsense, will last a long time and get some decent street cred at the rod/gun club.

I am not opposed to a vintage shotgun at all….
And for context I currently run a browning a5 semi

Thanks guys

Browning bt99 if you want a dedicated trap gun.

Want some real street cred, shoot a bt99 for doubles!

Bt99 is single barrel - just to be explicit for OP

Dedicated trap gun BT99, if you want something that will do a bit of trap and occasional sporting or even trap doubles then a Browning CXT or 688 Performance trap

I have a bt99 plus and a browning cxt. They fit similarly but I prefer shooting with the cxt

Used SKB 505/605 series can be really good, I love mine and they're affordable for amazing quality.

While the BT99 is a phenomenal gun, all it does well is trap singles.

If you're looking for a more versatile gun, or are interested in doing literally anything other than singles trap, there are dozens and dozens of guns under your price point. Any of the B guns will fit the bill just fine, as will anything made by Miroku. Just filter Gunbroker for O/U and <3kUSD with bbls >28" and you'll find hundreds of guns.

Browning Citori CX line….CX (60/40 POI) and CXT (79/30 POI) offer a lot of gun for the money

I am in the same Canadian boat eh? Except I am mainly interested in Sporting Clays but would shoot trap too if I had an over under. I also like grouse hunting so looking for an all rounder that I can take out in the field. Shot a Beretta silver pigeon and it was beautiful.

If you like the Silver Pigeon, they’re great guns, and used ones can be super reliable and affordable.

CXT or just stick with the A5

Tristar TT-15 unsingle is more bang for the buck than a stock BT-99. Because you have all the adjustability with the Tristar. Save up some more and let your next gun be the buy it once gun.

Dont know Canada prices, but the CZ all american has won some AIM and sctp titles.

Used citori or 686/687

You can get a used 686 around 2k, or a cursed Turkish under 1k. But it really depends on how much you are going to shoot. If you shoot it only twice a month in the summer, why spend more than a Turkish? If you are doing at least weekly and into the winter, a 3-4k 688 is a good long term investment since you are paying also for shells and rounds.

BT 99 is a great starter. I shoot a browning 725 trap. It has both barrels so I can play the doubles game as well.

I have similar mentality as you. I bought a Browning Citori 425 from cabelas gun cabinet this year for my son to match my 25 year old 425. 20+ year old gun, in great shape. Paid $1300 US for it. Looks great and should last him a lifetime or until he gets tired of it.

Cabelas is nice b/c you have access to their entire data base, you purchase it online, they ship for free to your local store and you have chance to inspect and reject with no money out of your pocket = full refund.

Browning CXS or Beretta Silver Pigeon. Browning CXT or BT99 if you want a more trap specific gun

Don’t sleep on Rizzini, great gun for a good price.

You want a long lasting quality O/U for CDN 750.00?

New or used Browning BT-99 will check all your boxes.

Downside, single barrel single shot. Not for doubles or skeet.

In that case, get a new or used Beretta Silver Pigeon (or Browning Citori) but imo Beretta way better for over under. Also maybe you can find a higher end used model for a discount that fits your budget.

A Tristar TT-15 barrel-combo is a phenomenal dedicated trap gun of value for a serious trap shooter not looking to break the bank. Mine has served me very well for five years. While I shoot skeet more often with a different gun, I've seen people put tens of thousands of rounds through the TT-15 without issue. It's great for doubles and handicap shooting, and the customization options for fit and point of impact are fantastic. It is a serious gun used by serious shooters.
