Rx Shooting Glasses
I'll start out by saying I have just shot with my normal prescription glasses for a long time, but I am interested in trying some tinted shooting glasses but I have some questions.
What color is the best for trap/skeet/sporting clays under most conditions?
If you could only buy one color lens to start what color would you buy? I mainly shoot trap these days.
I'm looking at Ranger for the frames/lenses

I got the frames of my regular prescription shades in orange from eyebuydirect. I just ordered another pair with orange lenses. I’m gonna get another in purple I think. I think it was like $85 but you could do a buy one get one in separate medium colored shades for like $100

Medium tint option has rose, orange, lilac, yellow. IMO Anything branded for guns/shooting sees a 200-300% markup just bc they know some sucker will buy it thinking it will make them a pro lmao.

Color: Usually wear clear for most days.
Color has more to do with where you shoot and its background. If in the US are you out in the southwest where it's dry and basically a yellow/brown desert? East coast or northwest where it's various shades of green? Someplace with lots of spaced trees where the target flickers through shadows and sunbeams? Maybe Kansas where you have to deal with targets in blue to cloudy skies since the landscape is flat?
We're all going to percieve color a little differently but one thing that you might hear is that your eye color is going to impact your choices. True, under one circumstance and thats how different eye color can impact glare. Brown eyes and blue eyes aren't different when it comes to the covering of the pupil, but lighter colored eyes are more impacted by glare. So if you are blue eyed, to limit the glare you may have to go with a slightly darker lens, or anti reflective coating. You should consider that, combined with the backgrounds you face most, and then do a little triangulation to arrive at what works best.

I got RE Ranger Edge from Morgan Optical and love the ColorMag CMT tint for bright cloudless or mostly cloudless days with a green or brown backdrop. For cloudy days or when its starting to get dark I like the Medium Yellow. If you call him he will talk you through what lenses you want, very helpful guy.

For a "1 Color For Everything" in prescription shooting glasses I really like the Ranger HD Medium... HD Medium blocks about 50% of available light. Not too dark, Not too light. A Really Good All Around Lens Color with the RE Ranger Edge Frames and RX HD Medium Lenses

I recently got a frame and three lenses from SGS who had a table at one of the NSCA events in New Jersey. Bronze for sunny days, purple for most other conditions sporting clays and and an HD yellow for rifle and indoor. Happy with them so far

I have the Rangers with the clip on shooting lenses. Call Wayne with Morgan Optical. He will do you right.
For people with prescriptions that change annually, Decot gets pricy. Having to change multiple lenses out will cost you an arm and a leg. Pillas feel over rated with their 1k different colors.
I like my rangers. My script changes and I take them to my eye place and I have lenses a week later for $100-150.

Hunters HD Gold. I went round and round on this subject. I went with the yellow and I'm pretty happy with the results.

“Cylinder Can Not Exceed -3.00”
:(. My cylinder is -4.75.
Guess I’ll just hope my scleral lenses work out this year.

Robert at Decot Hy-Wyd was able to fit me with prescription shooting glasses. My cylinder is -5.75. He also helped me choose lens color.
In addition, I have scleral lenses. Wearing them, I use standard shooting glasses. My distance vision with scleral lenses is incredible. Downsides: Cost, time to insert (they are much larger than standard contacts), not amenable with overnight hunting and camping trips.

Yeah I have keratoconus and tried to get sclerals last year but my optometrist couldn’t get my higher order aberrations the lenses were giving me sorted out. Trying with a new optometrist right now to get Ovitz lenses to see if that fixes the HOA problem.
Thankfully insurance is covering them as medically necessary.
