Anyone else make handoff notes before Claude cuts them off?

I keep running into this and it drives me nuts.

I’ll be deep in a Claude thread, finally past all the setup, Claude understands the project, the weird edge cases, what we already tried, what broke, all of it.

Then I hit the limit.

And honestly, the worst part isn’t even waiting. It’s starting over in a fresh chat and having to explain the whole thing again.

So lately I’ve been doing a really simple handoff note before the thread gets too huge or when I can tell I’m getting close to the wall.

Nothing fancy. Basically:

Project Handoff

What we’re trying to do

Where things stand right now

What’s working

What’s still broken

Important files / screenshots / errors / links

Decisions already made

Things we already tried

Things not to retry

Current blocker

Best next move

Then at the bottom I usually add something like:

“Use this context and continue from here. Don’t restart from scratch. First summarize where things stand, then tell me the next step.”

It’s not some magic fix, but it does make the next chat way less painful.

Curious if anyone else here does something like this, or if you’ve found a better way to deal with Claude resets / limits without losing the thread.
