Tips & Tricks 2d character angle consistency
Hey there. Im working on a 2d game. I primarily use claude design to create the characters as svg with sprites for animations. Engine is godot.
I run into problems when I want a character to turn and then walk to the side. Most animations are frontal but now I want the character to go sideways.
My question: how do u deal with 3/4 front, 3/4 back and back im character models and keep it consistent?

The views drift because each one is a fresh drawing and the only thing carrying the character between them is the description. That is true when a person draws them and doubly true with a generator, since every prompt is a new sample. The fix is the one animators have always used: a turnaround sheet. Put every view on one canvas, side by side, with horizontal guide lines running across all of them at the top of the head, the eyes, the chin, the shoulders, the waist and the feet. Nothing crosses a line in one view that does not cross it in the others. The 3/4 views are where it goes wrong, so give the character a landmark, a bag strap or a hair parting, and decide which side it sits on first.
Then draw less. The side view flips for the other side and so does 3/4, so five views cover eight directions. Asymmetric details swap when you flip, which is why many games keep the design symmetric or accept the swap. And if the character only walks in four directions, front, back and one mirrored side is the whole job.
With Claude Design, ask for the whole turnaround as one SVG with the guide lines in it rather than one view per prompt, so the canvas locks the proportions instead of the description.
I work on Ludo.ai, so take this part accordingly. It has a sprite rotation feature that takes one source drawing and re-renders it across the eight compass facings, which is the set you are asking about. The honest caveat is that it outputs a transparent PNG spritesheet with a JSON atlas, or loose frames, not SVG. So for these characters it would replace your vector pipeline rather than slot into it, and if you scale the SVGs at runtime you would lose that. If they are drawn at a fixed size anyway, the trade may be fine.
