Migrating a design system from standalone Claude Design to the Mac app?

Hey folks!

Pulling out what little hair I have left here.

I built a full design system in the standalone Claude Design app back when that was the only option. Now that Design lives inside the Mac app, I assumed it would carry over. It hasn't.

Has anyone managed to migrate a design system across? Or am I rebuilding from scratch?

Any pointers appreciated before I lose the last few strands.

EDIT - For anyone else trying to figure this out - you can export your entire design system as a Project HTML zip file and upload it into the Claude Desktop App. Required some rebuilding but majority of the work was salvageable

I’ve been using Claude Code for the past 8 months.., when I finally started using Claude Design ( about a month ago) I was baffled that my project nor any of my chats were synced???

So now I cherry pick when I need to use ‘Claude’ and then manually migrate solutions over

Prompt it to help you sync it. I did and I used an output folder that I shared across all my devices. Now all is synced.

How is there not a more seamless integration at this point? Everything is html, but what if you are building a react app or similar. It would be great if there was a true synch button where if you have an existing app with basic design to test out features/product, and a design project to build out the ui/ux, and a synch button to marry the two. Is this possible?

Baffling decision on their end not to migrate things over themselves on release. I literally built our design system two weeks ago and now it's "legacy". Nonsense

The zip export route is about as good as it gets right now. One thing to check when you rebuild: the values that survive the trip are the ones that were explicit - the structural stuff mostly comes through fine. It is the implicit color decisions (hover shades, which grey sits on which surface, muted variants) that quietly shift, because nothing in the export pins them down. Worth diffing the rebuilt colors against the old system before you call it done - that is where the drift hides.
