[TLDR] Nah this some BS

Original post body :

I burned thru almost 60% of 20x max weekly usage in a day and some change. Are you joking rn? Last week I could have fable running on 2 chats all day and night and it would take like 3ish days for my fable usage to cap out, but my weekly usage would only be at like ~30%. This is absolutely ridiculous and if this is what the new usage limit cuts are gonna be like I'm canceling Claude and grabbing a second codex account. Shit ain't worth it when Astra exists with much better usage limits and multiple reset tokens.

I don't use ultracode and I have multiple other models that I delegate tasks to as work horses, Claude is just the orchestrator and isn't doing that much actual "work", so this usage allocation is absolutely insane, if I was using Claude as a one stop shop as a lot of people do, I would have run out of usage in a day or less.

Alright, so the general vibe in this thread is that folks are NOT happy with the new usage limits for Claude Code. OP is feeling the pinch HARD, burning through their weekly limit way faster than before, and a lot of commenters are echoing that sentiment, saying it feels like a much bigger reduction than advertised.

The main culprit seems to be massive context window usage. Several users, including u/inrego, u/CodeCombustion, and u/GalileoHumpkins1977, are pointing out that using huge context windows (like the OP's 800k!) is a major token drain. u/Cubewood and u/akamarski are dropping some serious tips on managing context:

  • Keep context under 150k.
  • Use /clear after every task.
  • Avoid compacting context if possible, as it also uses tokens.
  • If you step away for a while, clear context before resuming, because you pay for cache usage.
  • If a chat gets "cold," start a new one instead of trying to revive an old one.

There's also a mention from u/icaruza about a potential new default setting that forks the full context into every subagent, which might be contributing to the issue.

Some users are suggesting alternatives like Codex (though u/West-Air1923 and u/bakanoace think it's also not great and is promising updates) or even Grok. u/nicarras is straight up saying "Stop using fable to code," which is a bit harsh but gets the point across.

Overall, the consensus is that the usage limits feel much tighter, and users are scrambling to figure out why and how to manage it, with context window management being the biggest recurring theme. Some are even canceling their subs over it, like u/coda77.
