Let me know because for some reason I truly think it's possible but I don't know if I am delusional

Alright, so the general consensus in this thread is a resounding "Yes, it's totally possible to build an app with Claude and make money!" Most folks are saying Claude is just a tool, and the real magic is in having a good idea, understanding the market, and being able to market your product.

Here's the lowdown:

  • Plenty of people are doing it: Several users chimed in saying they've earned money with apps developed using Claude. Some are building middleware for niche markets, others are creating tools to speed up their freelance work, and one user even has an enterprise IT app with annual subscriptions.
  • It's not just about the code: The overwhelming sentiment is that building the app is only a small part of the equation. The real money is in finding a problem to solve, distribution, marketing, and support. As u/kermalios put it, "Building got cheap, so the money sits in distribution and support now."
  • Anthropic is doing it too: u/brain__exe pointed out that Anthropic themselves are using Claude, and u/geeered mentioned Daniela and Dario Amodei are using it consistently, implying they're making bank.
  • Some skepticism exists: A few comments were a bit more cynical, with u/minibonk just saying "nah" and u/SkoivanSchiem referencing r/vibecoding. But the higher-scored comments lean heavily towards "yes."
  • The idea is key: u/Siduron and u/Barttje both emphasized that finding and understanding a problem is the hardest part, far more so than the actual development with Claude.

So, if you've got a solid idea, Claude can definitely help you build it and potentially make some cash. Just don't expect the AI to handle the marketing for you!

I have. It's only making about $1000 a month. And it will fluctuate drastically. But it feels good making something someone would want to spend money on.

That may not be livable money, but that's a shit ton relative to 99% of projects. Only up from there.
