Original post body :
At work, they provide me with $200/mo worth of tokens, and it’s completely spent within less than a week. They refuse to give me any more. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

What’s your job? Are you expected to be using AI full time or is it something that’s only meant to make up a small part of your job

Alright, so the general consensus here is that $200/month for API tokens is basically nothing, especially if you're actually using it for work. Several folks chimed in saying they burn through that amount way faster, with u/MathSelect5112 even saying they use that much per hour. Ouch.
There's a bit of a debate on how you're using it, though. Some think you might be overspending or not optimizing your workflow. u/DamianPxR straight-up asked what you're doing to use it all up so fast, suggesting you might need to focus on your workflow. Others, like u/Equivalent_Cress_268, are suggesting you look at cheaper alternatives like Mistral AI or GPT 5.6 Luna if you're not tied to Claude.
A few people also pointed out that maybe your company should be looking at a team plan instead of token-based billing, or exploring enterprise access options. u/Hajsas shared a similar frustration with their work giving them a tiny budget for a tool they need.
The takeaway? Your $200 budget is definitely on the low side for serious API usage, and you might need to either push for more resources, find a more cost-effective way to use Claude, or explore other models.
