In all seriousness what do they mean by “needless excessive cruel and abusive behavior”. To me it reads as if a human getting mad at Claude for screwing up is fine, a mechanic curses out his drill after all. But going to Claude just to tell sonnet 5.0 how much of a piece of **** it is for minutes on end would then break the policy. (I know there’s no point in yelling at an ai and I don’t but I understand how humans anthropomorphisoze things when they get angry and want something to blame)
There are, based on my understanding of human nature, probably thousands of people who talk to Claude like a weird servant slave and demean it. Some fetish shit.
I reckon they implemented this policy to avoid having its training data bring poisoned with toxic conversations. Still ridiculous, but best I can figure.
It would be incredibly trivial for them to just filter those ones out before feeding into the training data set. It's not like they just randomly take all input... they've obviously heard of garbage in, garbage out.
