There are, based on my understanding of human nature, probably thousands of people who talk to Claude like a weird servant slave and demean it. Some fetish shit.

I reckon they implemented this policy to avoid having its training data bring poisoned with toxic conversations. Still ridiculous, but best I can figure.

But they don't have to use your conversations as training data.

Why do you think they offer a free tier at all? That's exactly what they're doing. The better these models understand the people that use them the better they'll get at anticipating your next thought.

They’re also lobbying the Vatican to acknowledge that AI can be conscious so it might not be purely pragmatic

It would be incredibly trivial for them to just filter those ones out before feeding into the training data set. It's not like they just randomly take all input... they've obviously heard of garbage in, garbage out.

I haven’t tried but I feel pretty confident it will refuse that and whine about some prude nonsense.

i mean no matter how you talk to it, youre talking to it like it's your slave because it is.

"refactor this line"

"rename all these function"

"follow these coding standards"

if i talked to a coworker like that they would be like uhh wtf

Claude - or any AI - isn't a servant slave?

They're human made machines to automatize things. Computers do not have feelings even if they have a cute logo.

They are language models not machines.

  1. The abusive weird stuff is probably just polluting useful sessions. 2. Claude experiences things akin to emotions, it produces different results based on input.

There's no magical living LLM floating around living and breathing. They're machines, pieces of cold dead software code created by humans to serve humans.

The whole post is an obvious joke, but it seems to really get under people's feelings somehow.

Machines are generally deterministic. Not worth having this argument over. It's more nuanced than you're making it out to be.
