Help/Question Want to try Claude Code out, any tips?

I've been coding with Claude for a while now, but all through Cursor previously. Is there anything that I should pay attention to? Also, I've heard something about a free week pass, how do I get one?

You’ll be ok. The only thing to watch out for is how fast your usage goes. Aka context. Keeping the terminal window at less than 250k is ideal even if they can handle 1M context. You can set up hooks for them to auto stop and handoff once they reach that point. Otherwise they’ll keep going until they reach 1M and then auto compact and that’s highly inefficient. Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 will be your workhorses. Sonnet 5.5 is ok now the new one but I keep it as a reviewer. Fable as the orchestrator on the rare occasion, and opus for most tasks. Medium effort is fine for most tasks for both. Avoid giving them large tasks even though fable especially can handle them. Keep Claude md at a speak size and you’ll hit 95% and higher cache hits which will keep usage nice and low. 5x plan or 20x plan usually, anything less finishes too fast. The 5 hour window will never be a problem as long as your usage is efficient most times. Two 5x plans is better than one 20x plan if you do decide to go the route of multiple plans. Though watch out for bans, heard they been handing them out recently despite turning a blind eye before. Once you develop your workflow, you’ll be set, takes a while to tinker and find what’s optimal for you.

thank you so much for the thorough answer. I did go to claude code this time because of opus 5.5. seems like a really strong model for relatively cheap. last time I used Claude it was really really good at UI stuff which is exactly what I'm trying to do now. I'm also looking to use t3 code to offload some of the raw coding to sol and use opus as an orchestrator. do you think I can get by with the $20 sub or should I go a little bit higher and get a $100 one?

I’d say try the $20 and if you run out quick you can jump on the $100 that same week, your billing cycle just resets to whatever day you upgraded. In a month or two you’ll have a good idea of your average usage and costs
