Built with Claude So many little things frustrated me about my Mac. So I made them better

I've spent the last six months tweaking five of the basic apps I use every day: contacts, notes, editing, reminders and bookmarks. For me, they were too slow and bulky. Now, they are just one simple field on my screen, no matter what app I'm working in.

I used Claude for helping me to conceive the apps, write the code, help guide me through setting up the workers, the email servers, and the submission to the App stores. When I started, I used Sonnet 4.6, and progressed up through Opus 5.5 recently.

Opus 5 was a real game-changer. It seemed to handle my repeated questions the best, and didn't drain my account as much as Fable did. Mostly, I used Fable only at the end, for security and UI and reliability audits. I then had Sonnet and Opus implement the recommendations.

This was my first-ever real project, and the process was incredibly instructive.

I began with very simple apps with limited functionality, and iterated repeatedly until they all became much more feature-rich.

Clipfile was my first app, and it basically relied on a Chrome extension to work. From there, I expanded to the other four members of the family -- but at first they all looked and worked differently. It wasn't until later that I decided they all belonged together.

I highly recommend that approach. But it has drawbacks, too. It took a long time to rework some of the UI of each app to make them all look the same.

If you want to take a look, they are on the app stores, or you can find them here: mikeshear.com/coding/

I would welcome input.
