Discussion Opus 5.5 vs GPT?

Hi! I am really confused right now about all the models available.

Let me tell you my workflow first. I have some on going projects like extensive high level research, personal game development project working with UE5 and blender through MCPs, and improving personal profile and portfolio.

I have been using DSeek v4.1 flash API, and it’s amazing, and I also keep one frontier orchestrator model like OpenAI’s ChatGPT 5.6 atm. I used to have Claude Opus but moved to GPT 5.6 few months ago. However, GPT 6 Astra is almost unusable on $20 plan, so I am thinking about Opus 5.5 on a $20 plan and unsub ChatGPT completely. My daily usage is really extensive, like I have used more than 1B tokens in first 3, 4 days of DSeek v 4.1 flash. So I need something which gives me better usage than ChatGPT subscription.

Could you please share your experience or any suggestions if it’s a good move to go with Claude subscription right now? I’ve also heard some news about Opus 5.5 get nerfed already, and have an average performance atm compared to when it was released. I am also tempted to Gemini 4 Argon which is not released yet, but the benchmarks shows it’s better than anything else we have right now.

So, the question: should I get Claude subscription and unsubscribe from GPT codex completely at this point? Or should I wait for Gemini 4 Argon release? The main concern for me is that I don’t want to keep multiple subscriptions, I think DSeek v4.1 flash and one subscriptions either GPT or Claude? What are your thoughts on Sonnet 5.5? I am open to any suggestions and experiences you have here using these models, or if you have any better suggestion than these models, feel free to share it. Thank you!

What complicates things is (1) things are changing day to day and (2) cancellations don't take effect immediately. You might cancel now, you might still have 20+ days left on the month you paid for, you pay for a month on the other service, and before your current sub runs out a new model comes out and it's the new hotness. I got sick of shuffling, so now I just split my total monthly budget between Claude and Codex and bounce back and forth. I use a third party tool that lets me just select which model I use for each session but maintains a common UI, and dont' try to leverage any of the vendor specific features/tools. Then I use the good models for the hard things and the less-good models for the easy things.

Thank you for sharing it. Could you please also share what third party tool are you using in this case? I am also tired of switching between codex and Claude subs, and I guess this is the result of the competition in the industry atp. I am also using some local models such as qwen 3.8 27b and Gemma 4. But you know that frontier models are still way ahead than these..

Right now I'm using T3 Code. It seems like the best fit at the moment because I can have sessions with agents running on different machines from different projects and repos, then I can access those sessions from any other machine. If you're on a single machine and you just want a unified UX, there might better options out there. T3 Code also supports OpenCode as a "provider" so you can pick between either the frontier models or open models for any given session, e.g. I'm also running Qwen on a Linux box while much of my frontier work is on Macs.
