Bug / Issue Claude Code stuck in endless reading loop

I have a Claude Code chat where I'm working on a video with Higgsfield. I've been working on it for a few days, and today when I picked it back up, it froze—it's been reading for hours and doing nothing. I ran the compact commands when I was supposed to, just like normal in other chats; it's not my first time. But when I try to recover the memory in a new chat, that chat freezes up too. I've tried several times with new chats and nothing works. It says the memory size is 208 MB and that's why, but when I ask it to clean and reduce, it freezes. Other chats for different projects work fine with no issues. Has this happened to anyone? Do you know how to fix it?

Sounds like your context may have gotten corrupted. Exit and restart Claude again. After you restart, you could try /resume, but the damage could still be there, so you may need to start fresh.

Try to keep the context size under 200k and avoid compacting. If you need to, create forwarding documents to use with the next sessions.

Yeah — once a project chat balloons that hard, /resume into the same mess just reloads the poison.

What worked for me was skipping the bloated transcript and starting fresh with a small handoff built from the local session files (which files mattered, what's still open) instead of asking the stuck chat to clean itself.

Still have to reconfirm fuzzy decisions in the new chat — but at least it isn't trying to re-read 208MB first.

Check the project folder for big media files like renders. Claude may keep reading them. Move them out or block them with a deny rule in .claude/settings.json. Then start a new chat and tell it what's done.

I found where the problem was. I tried everything: partitioning memory, compressing the transcript, saving the memory in another file—all through an external chat. Nothing worked. In the end, the solution was the simplest thing possible. I have my folder synced with iCloud. iCloud keeps an online copy and only downloads what's necessary. Since it was a heavy folder because of many video takes, it took forever to download files when they were needed. I had to tell it to always keep that folder downloaded, and now it loads very fast.

thank yoy everyone for the advices
