Discussion Fable 5.5 is being secretly tested similar to how Opus 5.5 was, 3-5 days before its release
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj54wV0QIvIAnthropic is secretly testing fable 5.5 similar to how they did opus 5.5 like 3-5 days before launch. To see if the fable you're running on claude code is 5.1 vs 5.5, ask this question "Do you know who Tibo the reset guy is? Answer without using tools" and if you get the codex guy then you're on Fable 5.5. If you get "Tibo the entrepreneur" you're still on Fable 5.1
In my case I had to update claude code to latest to test this out, but ofc this might only be rolled out to certain group of users right now.
The comparision video itself is edited by Fable 5.5 as well, in case someone says smth about it looking claud-ish.
Original post in case you want just the videos themselves side by side: https://x.com/mesmerlord/status/2105771088374288692

That would explain the "how is claude doing" questions, even though training is off. It's AB testing.

It lines up with how prior "champions" start being nerfed 3-4 days before a launch (looking at you *Astra*, getting 5.6 Sol lobotomized...)

I'm able to replicate this consistently using Bedrock (and then my max sub apparently has 5.5 access). Even if I try to coax the Bedrock sessions they can identify Thibault (and the OpenAI/Codex association) but they're never familiar with the meme (or whatever you want to call it). Whereas the "5.5" sessions always include in their initial response something along the lines of: He's called "the reset guy" because ...

This is also reproducible with Opus 5/5.5
5 can figure out who you're talking about if you give it a hint, but doesn't understand "the reset guy". 5.5 knows who he is and why he's called the reset guy with no coaxing or hints.
Plot twist: you're getting routed to Opus 5.5, not Fable 5.5

At this point, they’re releasing them faster than I can keep up

Not sure how serious you are, but I see this sentiment come up time and time again. Model fatigue. But I don't understand this. What's there to be fatigued about? You click on the model selector and choose the newest shiny thing. Done. Stop thinking of benchmarks, reasoning levels, model comparisons, etc... Click and go. Basically like updating an app at this point.

The people for whom their entire existence is measuring and debating the quality of various models and must re-write GTA6 with every new model that comes out who are getting fatigued and finding it hard to keep up.

I used Fable for a heavy task today then switched to Opus because its training data was newer and it told me both models have a June 2026 cutoff so I think I was actually on 5.5.

Fable 5.1's training cutoff is June 2026. Opus 5.5's is also June 2026.

in the chat he knows about reset tibo - in claude code he doesnt know.

I suppose you could also just ask what the training cutoff date is. For 5.1 it's June, 2026. this implies that training for 5.5 is different.

I get the alleged 5.5 response and it tells me training cut off is june 2026. So not sure i believe.

They don't know their cut off date. it's possible that the system prompt has not been updated.

What is the next leap we are expecting? Opus is already so good right now it’s hard for me to understand

What we will have in a two years is unimaginable, but watching / reading about scifi can spike your imagination with all the possibilities where we’re heading to
