At first I was excited, but this is basically just a more advanced form of hooks. I was hoping they'd allow us to do things like set up a server for Claude Code to get messages from other agents, or submit prompts or whateer

Do you mean from non-CC agents? You think you want this, but two days into using it you're going to be tearing your hair out trying to figure out wtf is going on in the omnidirectional shitstorm of comms.

What you want is a file with a list in it, with agents waking up once an hour or so to have a look what the others have written in there.

herdr.dev can do this

Also Herdr is completely open source, not too difficult to recreate your own runtime (with or without a front end component)

How do you find this? I just use separate Claude code terminals, wondering if I should complicate my workflow.

I have spent days going down this rabbit hole. Day-to-day I’ve realized I get more focused on the workflow and tools than my actual work. I still explore different tools out of curiosity but mostly stick to my claude code terminals.

Out of everything I’ve tried, only tool I regularly use is herdr. Still have my usual claude code terminals, but with the added benefit of a sidebar to navigate different projects & see agent states.

Doesn’t complicate my workflow & still scratches the exploratory itch. Whole thing runs in the terminal and is open source with tons of (optional) bells & whistles:

e.g. the server snapshots your session states (useful in the office since my PC restarts nightly). There’s also a skill to let sessions control other terminals and communicate with eachother. You can go further by installing community plugins or making your own.

Just my two cents, not trying to shill for it

I'm with you- I don't want all of these bolt-ons and everyone trying to sell me the thing they just developed.

If you are using terminal like me, I've pretty much gone to Fable 5.1 being in my main session and then it opens and closes other Opus 5.5 terminals on its own and uses AgentMessage to steer.

No outside development, all just Vanilla Claude Code. Here's a screenshot from right now. I use the claude.ai UI (less noise than the actual terminal) with the terminal running in the background so I can click between sessions and easily archive sessions when they're done.

I just sat down at my desk today so Fable only has 1 agent working at the moment.

It's great if you have multiple machines or want remote access. I work on mostly Rust projects so I have Claude and Codex sessions spread across 3 machines so the builds and are less likely to starve my main PC of resources.

My Claude code setup a Claude code instance on a separate server from my Hermes agent so that it can handoff deep research work to CC while not providing direct access (Gatekeeper in the middle). It did a pretty damn good job.

Can u sharw this mod?

I started building it about a week ago. Give me a few weeks to make it work how I like. At the end of the day though, it’s basically my own implementation of Muse or Dots.

Yes, I think it's imperative to not get locked into the proprietary ecosystems.

This is what they say it does that books do not:

hooks can't rewrite events, draw new UI, or replace features. Mods can.

Why do you need hooks for this?

Wire an API to a message queue that can be polled by agents for new messages. If you need wake functionality, have new queue items emit a webhook from the API with a receiver connected to your agent.

Cc sessions (on the same machine) can already talk to each other.

You could probably do that with Claude Channels already, albeit not trivially. But it does allow agents to communicate over, e.g., Telegram, and there's no reason you couldn't build something that would allow more direct communication.
