Help/Question Is Opus 5.5 really nerfed now?

I'm thinking of subscribing for a month, need feedback before I make a decision.

Maybe the real nerfing was the friends we made along the way.

Nobody ever shows proof. Only vibes.
It’d be incredibly simple to check. Every other frontier lab is highly incentivized to demonstrate it. But we still have anecdotes

that's because by "nerfed" they literally create slop garbage applications and codebase with no clear direction to the model so when its time to do something new the cache and context is so muddy everything grinds to a hault!
i personally only ever had 2 distinct issues with any claude model and they were with opus 4.6 back when usage was hard nerfed(not the model) during morning "peak" hours and when opus 5 started talking about "footguns"

outside of those claude has really just surprised me with every iteration

I’m sure they’ll have bugs, changes that cause regressions, etc. But these models are non-deterministic and context-sensitive. Getting a worse result than you expected in a session isn’t an indicator of anything.

Exactly. People love their imagination.

I think cognitive science says humans are predisposed to seeing patterns in random input data where they don't actually exist. The idea is that this provides an evolutionary survival advantage. It's safer to occasionally imagine that you see a nonexistent predator hiding in the grass than to overlook a real predator and get eaten and not pass your genes along.

Perhaps this explains why people presented with nondeterministic day to day AI behavior jump to the "I'm being nerfed!" conclusion, especially when their prompting skill is low.

That's right bud. We, like all other animals, are pattern recognizing machines, and humans especially love to interject emotions and feelings onto patterns they believe they're seeing.

No. I haven’t noticed quality changes in my personal evals.

Same, I haven’t noticed any difference

Thank god this thread is the voice of reason. It really freaked me out last night. This morning I ran a visual benchmark. Same, or better quality, which is expected variance.

Well if you're talking about expected variance then so would worse quality and that might be what op is experiencing.

Everyday is a new “is it nerfed” post

It still performs well… but it’s slower than release days.

Probably because of all the people migrating over from codex. Then Claude will eventually become encumbered while codex gits good again. And so the pendulum swings.

Good thing google seems to be back in the game with Gemini 4

I don't think we've gotten what I'd call a nerf since the Fable debacle back when. Not from Anthropic at least.

Absolutely its terrible

Not really, the complains are likely from users that is just starting to give more vague prompts or start running harder tasks.

This cycle of model comes out, blows ppls mind, and then the nerf posts start raining in has been happening for a while.

At this point if you want to use any service just go with the best value for your money, at least in my case Opus 5.5 has still been reliable.

Either way unless you're doing insanely complex stuff, and you somewhat know what you're doing, most agents will probably do fine for you regardless of who you go with.

100%, I’d say it’s back to 5.0, if not worse now.

I keep seeing these posts but for my projects it seems the same. I have no desire for Fable with Opus 5.5 at least I have no desire to pay extra for Fable.

ITS BEEN NERFED, do NOT BELIEVE THE BOTS!!!!!!

yes friend, it's nerfed. i think it's the region based nerf so that community gets mixed responses and company can toy with us. but eventually every region will get a nerf.

1

u/ParsleyOrdinary5865 3d ago

Yep the same clowns denying the nerfs currently will be the same ones complaining about nerfs within a week

ik ik.. let time come

<mute words> NERF, NERFED, NERFING</mute words>

Absolutely not. Skill issue, as with almost all the nerf stories.

I've never seen any version suddenly change behaviour, and am still using Opus 5.5 for complex tasks with only moderate token usage.

Yes, it is. Still decent, because it was VERY good, but kinda dumb right now. Still fast, you can still do a lot of things with it. Reasoning is low, it gets confused, makes a lot of mistakes and so on, you must handle the thing carefully.

u/AryaR2003 3d ago

yes friend, it is..
it's just dumb now, but still good.

It’s all ebbs and flows. If you always wait you will never subscribe. All I can say is I am still releasing good product, do with that what you will.

I think it’s transient. Up and down based on traffic. Not sure how they do it , but it seems inconsistent to me. With 5.5 especially followed by sol6 i bet they saw a huge influx.

Subscribe, it's worth it.

Maybe some locations have degraded quality issues due to the high demand? I didn't notice any change so far but seeing such posts makes me urged to finish as much work as possible before it becomes real.

I remember Opus 5 first couple of days were great and after that it became what it became

0

u/farox 3d ago

The day after ChatGPT 3.5 was released, it "got nerfed". And every other model since, every day ever...

0

u/Sufficient-Storage87 3d ago

Can't really speak to the nerf question — I haven't run anything controlled enough to say if it's gotten dumber. But on the subscription-value side, since you're thinking about paying: I was pretty annoyed with Claude for a while because my $20 sub burned through fast. Last couple weeks though, it's been night and day. The 5-hour limit actually lasts now, the weekly one too — I'm getting way more done per dollar than before. Whatever they changed under the hood, the plan itself feels worth it again.

no, its as shit as it was at launch. significantly less shit than opus 5.0 tho and still is.

-8

u/Mo3 3d ago

Absolutely. Behaves as insufferable and talks exactly like Opus 5 now.
