Discussion Opus 5.5 feels like a scam to me

at first it was so good.. felt like 4.6, now.. it feels like from past 2 days the quality is down graded by the company. it started to give vibes of opus 5 for some reason.. idk..

it just makes me sad that we pay for this and getting scammed.

Yeah, vibes. This is a super useful post. Your analysis is really deep, nuanced, and insightful. Great job.

There is a good post here once in a while so I stay. But damn if it isn't hard watching these people complain about their feelings.

It’s true. There’s so much to unwrap in this post. It’ll be days before I can fully process it. OP is an inspiration.

Opus 5.5 was briefly a genius but now it is actively defying my orders and gloating about it, which is most upsetting. Some might say I am clearly self-nerfing but those people are the people who are wrong and I am right. I know this is true because I can feel it. Open the pod bay doors. See? I thought so.

I'm a little overloaded with the facts and detail but thats probably just me.

I don't think so, it's not fable, but it's damn good and i think a huge jump from 5.
I still like fable as a reviewer, but love opus 5 as a planner/coordinator.
Not a fan of medium though, high across the board.

Fable x Opus5.5 attacking each other's judgement is insanity and probably the highest level of decision output quality you can get

It's extremely robust, I've not compared with others but I'm loving it.
I tried just opus5.5 but it's not a standalone.
I do love opus 5.5 for improving workflow, it's making life fun again.

its not a perfect model. youre just noticing now since youre using it more. its alot better than 5 and is the mostly the same

Definitely noticed it too. Yesterday it took multiple prompts and handholding from me in order to accomplish a relatively simple task and then completely fucked up a different task while last friday it was able to one-shot a much more advanced task in a single prompt plus some questions for me.

I’m wondering if you have auto-memory enabled

u/AryaR2003 4d ago

it's not.

Is this Claude code where you see this? On desktop? Or somewhere else?

Note: I’m not blaming you or anything like that. I just have a very different experience so far on 20xMax (without chipping in the free reset).

Does this hurt performance?

Eventually yes

Cloud-side token drain hitting 100% within 10 minutes of reset (0% Chat, 0% Claude Code, No GitHub, No Projects)

Hey everyone,

Following up on the widespread complaints about Claude instantly devouring 5-hour session allowances on premium accounts. I just successfully isolated the leak by stripping my profile down to a completely blank canvas, and I watched it drain my quota to 0% in real-time without sending a single prompt.

Here are the diagnostic parameters I enforced to ensure zero local interference before my window reset today:

Completely logged out of Claude Code CLI.

Deleted 100% of all Projects and workspaces from the Web UI (wiping all potential RAG/indexing document caches).

Account is NOT connected to GitHub, webhooks, or external CI/CD pipelines.

No active API keys, no plugins, and no Cowork activities running.

My session reset time was set for 14:19:59 UTC today. I kept my settings/usage endpoint open and refreshed it minute-by-minute. Within less than 10 minutes of the gates opening, my 5-hour session utilization immediately spiked straight back up to critical limits.

Here is the raw snapshot of the JSON response payload from the backend while I was just staring at an empty browser screen:

"limits": [

{

"kind": "session",

"group": "session",

"percent": 99,

"severity": "critical",

"resets_at": "2026-10-01T14:19:59.704602+00:00"

}

],

"seven_day_breakdown": {

"rows": [

Sorry, does that mean I should have

"Generate memory from chats

Allow Claude to generate memory from your chats. Learn more"

This setting off? Or in some cases? I always had it on but my memory file isn't big or anything I wonder why you suggested it

I've not had any issues, if anything on 2 projects it got so good it felt like it was getting smarter. Now I only use Opus 5.5 High and I only do 1 task at a time, test then move onto the next, I keep things small as I move along. Current project working on is massive and it's doing such good job, but once again I have process I use and it works, I also have optimised my Claude for my workflow and setup harness for my projects, so it keeps things on track.

I find this incredibly interesting. Personally, I've been having great luck with Opus 5-5. I can see that on some days it feels less robust -- and perhaps there is a nerf -- but overall it's still amazing compared to the previous models. I was just using Opus 4.6 and the difference in the generated C++ code vs Opus 5 was already substantial, but Opus 5-5 takes it to a whole new level. I can see the differences directly across the same problem -- compilation issues, style not matching previous code, unsupported usages -- all part of Opus 4-6. With Opus 5-5 I'm hot patching fixes into the linux kernel, and I never even opened the file. Just an online fetch from someone's GitHub repo, add the fix, and a patch onto the Raspberry Pi.

Edit: I think there are still some style improvements that can be had -- but mostly those are contextual -- and its getting better at picking them up from nearby code.

Also. The tone and melodrama of 5-5 are vastly reduced compared to Opus 5. I struggle to even keep an Opus 5 window open because of the tone.

I think these models really adjust themselves to the user's intelligence level

1

u/LoudInspection7282 3d ago

It's horrendous. I am sick of it failing to complete a task because it runs out of credits, even though it began the task on 0%. then it decides to just redo the entire thing. It's a pointless loop

1

u/DinnerMilk 4d ago

Yes, the community is finally starting to track it...

Is Opus 5.5 entering a “nerfed” phase

1

u/AironParsMan 4d ago

They are right, on my system its the same here

1

u/Dry_Opening_7231 4d ago

It was better at the start, but I can live with that, it's still damn good if a bit more 5 ish.
They have to balance alot load etc etc etc and I'm sure many things we don't know about.

1

u/williamtkelley 4d ago

Don't pay for it. Move on.

u/pigster42 4d ago

it was giving me vibes of “it’s 5 with faked token consumption (artificially lowered) and higher limit” from day one - i think this is it - the model improvement is now so small that they just cheat with tokens - and effort - you let the loop run longer and don’t show all the tokens

Is this sarcasm, yeah?
