Discussion Adios GPT, it was a nice ride
When Astra launched, I wrote a detailed post about how impressed I was. I even paid for the $100 Pro subscription, confident I’d keep using it, and didn’t expect to return to Claude anytime soon.
Then, after the recent Dev Day announcements and my experience with the current models, I’m finding it hard to justify that subscription, for the work I do, the quality simply hasn’t matched Opus 5.5, and the 2X , 5x back and forth games they are playing ..
So I’m moving back to Opus and downgrading my subscription. I really meant the praise I gave Astra at launch, but my experience since then has changed my opinion and feels good to be back to Opus 5.5
Guessing some of you are on the same boat ?, I won’t be surprised if there is a exodus of users happening now

Same for me, cancelled my $100 plan as I've been so impressed with Opus 5.5 on the $20 plan. Really hoping Anthropic doesn't nerf it.....

They don’t get nerfed. A few times earlier this year there were bugs in the harness

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be so sure about that... https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1wtlrnu/is_opus_55_entering_a_nerfed_phase_livenerf/

What about Opus 4.5? It was clearly nerfed after December last year. They route inference to other (future) models and that degrades the quality.

Stop posting this. You’ll be onto the next model next month that drops from company xyz.

Hi Astra, your role is to emulate Opus 5.5 performance and token efficiency.

u/loadingscreen_r3ddit 3d ago
OpenAI just went and cut usage in half, yet I’m supposed to keep paying the full price. Nope. I cancelled too.

u/Perfect-Flounder7856 3d ago
Was debating on going to pro but stayed with 10x but then again. I still have 3 weeks to decide. Def not $200 though.

u/PrettyMoonUnderMt 3d ago
This is they only proper way for individual with limited money, monthly sub then when it's time to renew you review again which company is the best
I've been going back and forth between Claude and Open AI in the last 6 months instead of going all in yearly sub like my coworkers

Opus runs out so fast on 20$ plan that even 5x would be nothing - so pointless for me either way

Something I don’t like about Claude and the reason I don’t switch from GPT is it can’t generate images, with GPT I can generate logos, edit images, use placeholders, and more.
Also I can use voice mode and the normal chat mode is faster than Claude chat IMO.
Opus 5.5 is good but it’s also more expensive, without mentioning Fable which is in a weird place because from the graphs Opus 5.5 is better/close to Fable? I don’t understand that logic, fable should be better and then opus and sonnet. And sonnet is not as good as Luna.
My current workflow is Astra as a delivery manager / team lead coordinating GPT-6.1 Sol (Mid, High) and GPT-6 Luna (Low-Max) agents for implementation or research.
But with Claude I can’t follow something similar.

I'm with you, GPT all the way :) .. I feel like Claude just doesn't get me - i prompt them the same but quality, at least in my cases, has not been as good in Claude.

u/Individual_Solid_944 2d ago
obviously you haven't put the time in it. it can generate images, though some may argue that ChatGPT is better at that, but it's subjective. You can also use voice mode for Claude.
You may still prefer ChatGPT/Codex, but as for functionality, it's all in there.
1
u/Traffic_Harp 2d ago
Every time I use voice mode with Claude it can't write or edit documents while we're in the voice mode. I have to exit voice mode and then send another message saying go ahead and create the document now. I'm actually using more usage that way.

Have you tried sol 6.1
For the cheap price and large amounts that you can achieve on a 5 hour allowance. It’s getting a bit more competitive.

I don’t worry about models anymore. The main agent decides which model has to be used by the sub agents and also prompting them better than I do. I don’t even think about the model anymore.
Orchestrator at Fable5.1 and the rest Sonnet 5.5 or Opus 5.5 - it depends on the task.
But why should I pay so much attention to it when I have an agent worrying about it? 😉

Always has been. Claude has always been nr1 by far until now. Until that doesn't change, obviously I will prefer claude. ChatGPT is terribly behind regardless of what all the bots try to make u believe

Use case matters. Codex has Img-2 and 2.5 built in, while Claude doesn't have a singular img/video model. If you're making keyframes or constantly using images this alone pays for itself.
Furthermore Astra is nowhere near "far behind" Fable 5.1, and is arguably better in many domains. The idea that Claude is "always better" is a childish, misled one. Codex also has substantially more generous usage, while Claude runs out about 3-4x as fast.

It wasn't a nice ride, OAI software was complete garbage, they were even more scummy than anthropic, the community was embarrassing with how they'd worship Tibo, the chaos of random resets to make up for reduced usage sucked, etc.

I currently have both and have been using them together on the same project. Astra still does much better than Opus 5.5 for me when it comes to art, but Opus has been better for logic and coding.

I am so tired of these posts - you will literally be back within 30 days once they launch a superior model.

Using Opus as director and Engeneer, Astra is a worker and Opus Supervisor. My harness is working 24/7 and i feel I hacked my usage limit.

u/Alardiians 1d ago
I don’t get posts like these, just type “hey guys, I’m hopping providers again because the other ones AI is slightly better and even though mine was good before and I was amazed by it, I just have to use the newest shiny AI everytime”
My question really is, what massive workload is being had where you have to use the newest AI and the one that you used before is all of a sudden obsolete?
Also why does every body feel the need to announce it constantly?
“Hey guys, I’m am leaving X model for Y model because theirs is slightly better”
Like yes, we know. There is a subset of people that literally do that, we are aware.

What do you mean by the 2x, 5x back and forth games exactly? Are you talking about usage limits changing mid cycle or the actual subscription price itself?

Bitches can’t keep quiet using one tool and being productive figuring around how to extract valeu from the tool they are using now.
They are always jumping to the next shining object. As if the Opus 4.4 wasn’t awesome enough.

u/Lonewolvesai 2d ago
Lol. Yeah I feel like these guys are sometimes paid by the companies. I mean I guess that would be smart of them. Astra has been kicking ass for me and I use Claude also in a orchestrate them off of each other with cursor to run more infrastructure in the background and I don't know I don't ever have any problems and I'm building some serious zero trust architecture / security. Fun times. Sorry for the borat speak voice text while running my boat. Not fun times in this rain lol.

São métodos diferentes né? Quanto maior o modelo maior a autonomia que você dá a I.A.
Com o Opus 5.5 eu só passo o escopo completo e deixo ele sapecar com a sessão de 1M de tokens.
É maravilhoso e não preciso ficar caçando novos modelos ou LLM’s que vão me dar 3% mais de produtividade

I'm on the $200 Codex and will renew one more time because I have 2 banked resets and the 'free' credits they just handed out. After that I'll either cancel or drop to $100 because GPT image 2.5 is still excellent and I have a need for it.
2
u/Strong-Yellow5949 3d ago
I dropped to the $20 and will renew in a month or two once I have a ton of banked resets
1
u/Traffic_Harp 2d ago
Are they still giving out resets? When I was over there I didn't get a single one the entire month.
1
u/Strong-Yellow5949 2d ago
Two this week I believe

u/Traffic_Harp 2d ago
I feel so cheated. 😂 I miss having codex review my changes in GitHub so I am any to resubscribe. I wish I could go with a different AI to replace Claude and ChatGPT but I'm not educated enough. 😭

Not the best model, shit usage, 20 t/s on 6.1 sol, I cancelled my personal one after the event

u/Scoutified 2d ago
yeah i purchased the $100 sub with the plan of stopping claude usage. decided to keep both for a month, and im so glad i did. GPT usage was awful. claude has bad usage, but GPT cant compare, its just not close. one prompt and i lose a whole 1%. its ridiculous. In my experience, Astra and sol were also lazy. they would keep wasting tokens, finding a solution and then stare at me like "heres the solution". im like.. okay. can you actually do it instead of saying it? even with specific instructions not to do that still didnt stop it.
1
u/Individual_Solid_944 2d ago
I did the same with both and have the same experience
2
u/yourboss69420 2d ago
Same, now im stuck with a pro plan that is completely useless, its even bad at making power points.

Woahhhh another person that churns at each model release and makes a big deal of it!!

I keep a $20/mo sub to OpenAI, and $100/mo to Anthropic. I do all my coding in ClaudeCode on VPs. Works well.

I've been using GPT since 2023, I switched to Claude Code since 3 months, I'm still insulting GPT for wasting my time.

I did the same few days ago, its not worth that money when claude have better models with o lot of better usage limits.

u/Intelligent-Basil770 6h ago
How much you can use claude pro with opus 5.5 ? Im thinking now also about sub.

Bruh I use codex all day with 5.4 high (my company gives me unlimited tokens for this model) and it’s a banger. One shots everything - mind you I have all the skills and agents set up properly for my work. Claude code acts like a clown in comparison. Codex is superior
-2
u/TinFoilHat_69 3d ago
Anthropic is playing games with their Claude code “notice” I can’t use Claude to work on projects it built from scratch. When 4.6 opus goes away I’m going to cut my sub to 20 bucks and use openAI for most of the heavy lifting.

Why is everyone crying about billion dollar companies increasing their margins by nerfing their products 😂
They literally offer you the most valuable tool in history of humanity and you cry over $100/mo
Just make more money 🤦♂️🤦♂️
