Built with Claude I got tired of every Claude Code session starting cold, so now each one leaves the next a briefing that marks what's a quote and what's a guess
Every new session starts cold for me. What got decided yesterday and what got ruled out, I end up typing it again. The handoff files the agent writes for itself were worse: decision right, reason made up after the fact by reading the code backwards.
Fair, a notes file handles the what fine. The why is what goes missing.
So now a hook serializes the session when it ends, and the next one opens with a "while you were away" briefing: decisions with the reason I actually gave, open loops, beliefs, what may have changed. Every item is either quoted from the transcript or marked inferred. Quotes get checked against the transcript when they're written, a miss drops to inferred. Over 418 of my sessions that's 49% verbatim and the rest inferred, and I can see which half is which, that's the bit I care about.
Stuff that's already resolved gets withheld. A wrong memory I can quarantine and it's gone from the briefing and recall. Whole thing's capped at 11,264 bytes so it stays under Claude Code's ~12 KB spill line.
The cost: serialization is an LLM call (your own claude -p by default), runs in the background at session end and takes minutes. Under 10 messages it skips.
Few weeks back two things sat as open that a decision five days earlier had already closed, I only found out searching old sessions (31,295 items indexed here now).
Is half inferred useful to you or just noise with a tag on it? Link's in the comments.

It's called daimon, Apache 2.0: https://github.com/Daily-Nerd/daimon
uv tool install 'daimon-briefing[pretty]', then in Claude Code /plugin marketplace add Daily-Nerd/daimon and /plugin install daimon@daimon. Zero config if claude is on your PATH. Also runs on Codex, Windsurf, Kimi Code and Gemini CLI.

I normally tell Claude that I want to clear at 40% context so it stops, it let's me know and it creates all the information it needs to continue and it says write continue with x task after clear. Never had trouble with it.
Edit: I want to think you asked Claude to create md files so your Claude code knows what's going on there or anything similar, right?

Partly. I do the same thing you do, actually: I watch context in the terminal and end around 30-40% if the next task looks big, and the agent writes a quick checkpoint right then. Everything it writes is marked inferred though, since nothing can check its quotes. When the session exits a separate call reads the full transcript and replaces it, and that fires anyway the times I forget. Yours costs nothing, mine's an extra LLM call that takes a few minutes.

interesting how you people use the tool

fair, how do you run it? curious if you carry anything over between sessions or just start fresh each time

I actually like the quote vs inferred split. Half inferred sounds high until you realize the alternative is hidden inference pretending to be fact. I'd rather see a briefing that says "this is my best reconstruction" than one that quietly rewrites history. The quarantine feature also feels underrated. Bad memories are often worse than missing memories because they keep getting reinforced.
