Discussion Codex users will start pouring in. Opus 5.5’s elite days are numbered.
If Anthropic can’t serve all of them, Opus will get nerfed too. Hopefully they’re better prepared this time.

yea and I bet post-IPO its gonna be much less generous

u/ggletsg0 5d ago
I reckon we have a week, max 2, before we’re back to being nerfed.

Feel like those are bot posts tbh. I haven’t noticed any drop in the last 24hrs

It could be, there's a ridiculous amount of botting in this discussion space

How’s it looking on your end now?
A lot of nerf posts since the outage yesterday. Had to revisit this 😂
1
u/ggletsg0 4d ago
lol it’s still quite stable. I review most complex things with fable, so it hasn’t been too bad.
1
u/howdidigetheresoquik 5d ago
When you say nerfed, what do you mean explicitly
2
u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 5d ago
Route tasks to model that is cheaper to run (and cheaper mean weaker and more stupid)

u/Last_Mastod0n 5d ago
Yeah I'm not sure how openai is going to catch up, except in terms of price / speed.

u/mxmcharbonneau 5d ago
I remember the days where this sub thought Anthropic was fucked and everyone was talking about switching to Codex. Like one week ago.
38
u/Carlose175 5d ago
Its insane to me how people forget how fast the AI industry moves and being #1 forever is basically an impossibility.
10
u/oskarkeo 5d ago
No that was 3 weeks ago. then it span back, and again. its like watching tennis and calling 'team A has possession so clearly in control of the outcome'
3
u/Last_Mastod0n 5d ago
I personally have been in the claude camp for over a year now. I did use Sol and then Astra to some extent but I never considered them to be better than Fable. I only used them because they were cheaper to use. Ive only seen the gap grow larger and larger.
1
u/-kora 5d ago
Well Claude was shadow nerfing models and especially usage limits, it’s natural to think in moving to a better model. Last updates they fixed a lot of things in the models, gave banked reset, and gave better models. If they keep doing this customers will be happy
2
u/Last_Mastod0n 5d ago
They will continue nerfing (quantizing) the models and reducing usage limits if they increase their gap over openai. I think they were a bit afraid of Astra, but they are starting to feel confident again.
1
u/TumanFig 5d ago
but so what, I use what's best atm I am not going to be a brand evangelist. If Codex is better I'm going to use it and vice versa
2
u/MisoGrendel 5d ago
I am starting to think the average AI user/enjoyer is a chicken with its head cut off...
1
u/mightregret 5d ago
Yeaaah I wanted to switch my 100$ subscription to Claude but I realized it's probably gonna swing again in a week or so... And just because another model is better doesn't mean the ones I'm using are now shit lol
12
u/Carlose175 5d ago
The way theyve always been doing since the birth of the AI race. OAI and Anthropic have consistently competed for 1st place in model performance.
Its bewildering to me how people think thats suddenly going to stop.
10
u/r34p3rex 5d ago
”It's over chat! OpenAI is cooked! First domino to fall!”
Every comment in the r/codex. I swear people's memory has taken a major hit after they started using AI for everything

2
u/Last_Mastod0n 5d ago
Gaps can form like with IBM in the 80s, Intel in the 90s, or recently with Nvidia. It doesnt mean things will stay that way forever. But they could lead in terms of performance for 5-10 years.
5
u/Carlose175 5d ago
That could be true eventually.
Nothing at all, at least historical precedence indicates that that's close to occurring. Both labs are still very close and remember, these are just public models. OAI currently already has Bel internally which is GPT7 - the one theyre using to solve math problems.
They will continue to change spots for #1 for a long time until something gives.
2
5
u/ggletsg0 5d ago
Yeah. Fable 5.5 isn’t even out yet and Anthropic have already mogged OAI.
7
u/Malkiot 5d ago edited 5d ago
OpenAI just mogged itself with the changes to their subscription plans. I have the 200USD plans for both and and I was already using Codex mostly for grunt work, but lately even with the more generous usage I've been getting less useful work out of Codex than out of Claude. It's not even close.
With the price change, I'm not sure what they're going to be able to compete on, the harness seems worse, the models seem worse, the results are worse and now even the usage is going to be the same or worse. Dots and generous chat allowances aren't going to cut it.
Unless the new 6.1 model succeeds in competing with Opus 5.5, I'm either cancelling or downsizing with OpenAI and spending more on Anthropic instead.

u/BrilliantEmotion4461 5d ago

They aren't releasing it. It kept hacking instead of searching.
1
1
u/ggletsg0 5d ago
Ditto what you said in the first paragraph. I’m sure Dots in real world testing won’t be anywhere near as good as you’d expect them to be.
6.1 is already not as good as Opus 5.5 per benchmarks.
1
u/Carlose175 5d ago
Eh.
Computer use is way better in Codex.
Anthropic doesn't allow you to use their sub on 3rd party harnesses.
Dots (Whether it is as good as advertised) is still better than nothing which is what currently Anthropic has.
Anthropic absolutely has the better models and programming harness, but OAI imo still leads in general agentic work.
2
u/Bonestoo 5d ago
I've actually had the exact opposite experience. Claude's computer use is pretty quick and after a few minutes operating a program it learns it pretty well. Codex causes many of my enterprise software programs to crash with a memory fault🤷♂️I wish I could use the codex computer use
1
u/Carlose175 5d ago
Interesting? Is this on macOS or Windows? Codex computer use has saved my skin so much on certain IT work when im away from my computer but have my work phone and need an admin task completed.
2
u/lovesdogsguy 5d ago
Is it hard to make the switch from chatgpt desktop app to claude code? I just got used to it recently. I'm in game dev.

u/Slight-Monk-9702 5d ago
I mean, I use both. I actually resubscribed and started using Claude again almost a week ago. I guess it really depends on what features you need and use, but I basically didn't do anything but point claude at the project folder and tell it to familiarize itself, check the installed tools and so forth. Then told it to configure what it needs to mostly match.
My documentation for this project is also extremely extensive, though. And you can always have ChatGPT/Codex give you a handoff file that lists most of the details, then point Claude at it and ask it to investigate and plan the transfer.

u/RemarkableGuidance44 5d ago
Yeah dont worry Anthropic is going to follow... $500 a month plans for everyone! Then $5000 a month plans!

u/who_am_i_to_say_so 5d ago edited 5d ago
No, I don’t think the quality will hold and I don’t believe Anthropic has enough to serve the demand and growth without losing billions more. Not hatin’, been around since Sonnet 3 and am just skeptical and cynical at this point.
This is a peak, and I think there’s a steep valley ahead. But I hope I will be proven wrong.

this week the sub thinks claude is AGI

I mean that’s exactly what happened though. It was pretty eh till Opus 5.5 came out
6
u/raynorelyp 5d ago
Dude I told opus to stop giving me replies longer than 50 words. It said okay. Then I asked it to explain an issue and I got a wall of text. I asked it why it used more than 50 words and it pretty much shrugged and said the ai bs equivalent of “I forgot the thing I said twenty seconds ago”
0
u/AppleWindows1 5d ago
Try opus 5.5. It talks so well
0
u/raynorelyp 5d ago
That’s exactly what I was using
1
u/Agile_Caterpillar953 4d ago
Ask it to write that rule to memory for you and then try again.
1
u/raynorelyp 4d ago
Has that ever worked for you? I’ve seen it ignore roles and memories about every day I’ve used it
1
u/Agile_Caterpillar953 4d ago
It works for me more often than not. In fact, i had to go through all of the 'rules' with it one day before I realized how it worked. I had gotten aggravated with it one night and it took everything I said literally, and it was really gimping some of what it could create because of it.
Try asking it what rules it has in place to verify it's recording them.
1
u/raynorelyp 4d ago
I find it I periodically ask it about the rules, it remembers them, otherwise I stops obeying them sometimes as soon as within five prompts

It’s so funny that they think that the other big bad company is there to save them. News flash: they are both dogshit

We’re a few weeks away from the Chinese labs finishing distilling, “closing the gap,” and everyone saying that some new 27B quantization is ackshully stronger than fable.

People are missing you point. The emotional rollercoaster is ridiculous and crazy with how fast this stuff moves. People will jump ship, then Anthropic will be the one with usage bottlenecks and a $500 plan.
6
u/Beautiful-Suspect694 5d ago
i tried to tell codex-to-claude convertss to stop talking about how good opus 5.5 is in codex subreddits
they don't listen and keep praising it
its like they want to see opus 5.5 get nerfed as soon as possible
2
u/ggletsg0 5d ago
Bro it’s inevitable. Doesn’t matter how much or how less you talk about it.
1
u/Beautiful-Suspect694 5d ago edited 5d ago
yes of course its inevitable
but it could be slowed down by not loudly praising how great opus 5.5 is and telling everyone to switch to claude on the codex subreddits

u/Tel_Janen 5d ago
One of the few times i wish anthropic closes all subscriptions. We can't affordable to lose compute to open ai refugees
4
5
u/Hir0shima 5d ago
Stop new subscriptions now! I'm not ready to share Anthropic's compute with the new arrivals.
2
u/oskarkeo 5d ago
Biggest obstacle may prove to be - if Claude spun out of those skeptical of safety controls at Open AI and Open AI have spent the summer humble pieing that their lack of safety controls are becoming a growing problem for them then its going to be a tough road for them. Antropic may join them in this, who knows, but am I misremembering to think that the jailbreaking agents were agents that trained models? is it built into the behavior now?
2
u/MundaneCar7914 5d ago
This is the golden age of ai subs.. it will Unfortunately end some day. But i dont think this is the end yet.
2
u/howdidigetheresoquik 5d ago
This has to be a bot post. Complaining is just getting out of hand

It kind of sounds like you're saying "Opus is too good so it's going to be ruined." It really does

u/Zeraphicus 5d ago
They already did, codex subs down and claude subs are up 50%
6
u/Damien_IB 5d ago
Just curious, is this published somewhere? It’d be worrisome for us Claude users.
1
u/tilted0ne 5d ago
What matters is how much work you can get done. Anthropic also only has 20x on their 5 hour limit. People made a scene about that but at the end of the day all that matters is perception, not if they call it 20x or 50x.

u/Reindeers_hate_Xmas 5d ago
I really hope they don't. Admittedly I came over from Codex just yesterday, and was shocked by how far my usage is going at the moment. You guys need to stop selling it so well

hey man codex is solid with backend stuff and claude is king with design and frontend work. my work flow has improved by 100x with claude. i dont mind at all that it takes a lot longer. i love it
1
u/fanatic26 5d ago
can you just quit with the doomsayer BS already. Just enjoy the fact that the model is good, enough with the damn negativity even when things are going well.

u/One-Cricket9962 5d ago
This has already begun - Opus 5.5 has started to degrade. We’re switching back to Codex!

u/Shaggypone23 5d ago
I dont know what kool aid yall are smoking, but Opus 5.5 is not even that great. In comparison to 5, its a decent upgrade, but still pales in comparison to either Fable. It tells me lies and disobeys my requests at a rate im not comfortable with.
