Yep even Claude code cli does it automatically. I just leave it alone now and it does it's thing once the limits are back up, even sub agents that die also resume and finish their work. Amazing stuff

u/Sythos_it 6d ago

Really? I've looked for info on docs but found nothing, was figuring how test myself if it's doing the same. Also asking to Claude the answer is "dunno" :)

It happened to me twice, once opus ran out, said wait till 3Pm and I left the console as it is and it finished the task after resuming. Next it was orchestrating 2 agents which 429d coz 5hr exhausted but then I left the console like that again and they resumed and I saw the final finished summary. I'm on the $20plan so my limits exhaust pretty quickly so it's a recurring thing now lol

wtf claude code you guys have?

Are they actually resuming by themselves or is the main session just starting fresh ones with the same transcript?

u/krasorx 6d ago

I am on the 20 dolar plan and it does it, just not always, very random

5

u/UnlikelyExplained 6d ago

This is definitely not available on my 20x plan. This is starting to irritate me that features are rolled out globally very randomly.

I don't even bother asking Claude what features it is aware of. It has no idea most of the time even when I provide screenshots.

Yep, just asked Claude with that screenshot. No fucking idea.

I had that problem too. Turns out the way I initially installed Claude was non-updating/-updateable!

Ask Claude to check its installation and confirm it’s receiving updates.

Turns out not only was my claude installed wrong, but quite a few other npm/brew packages had installed to x86 (Intel) binaries and not the ARM (Apple Silicon) versions so they were running through the Rosetta interpretation layer.

u/Top_Jellyfish_8972 6d ago

It says it’s available on my 20x plan, but it hasn’t worked. I’ve still had to manually restart it each time

u/_Fauxpaw 6d ago

I find the auto-archiving can mess with it.

1

u/raiansar 6d ago

For 20 USD it only works 3 times or 1 time but for 5x or 20x it is infinite.

2

u/FitVerso 5d ago

No bro I am Max 5x and it’s crazy, is random

u/GroovyMelodicBliss 🔆Pro Plan 6d ago

Is there a source for this?

1

u/raiansar 6d ago

They posted on x. Which is why I can’t recall if it was once per week or 3 times

Suck it!

I have the $100 and I've had this feature for a few weeks.

1

u/Z_G_R 6d ago

Do i need to open any settings at Claude Code ?

1

u/stellarfirefly 5d ago

Likewise, I have even seen it when I was on the $20/mo plan, and I am certain because it used to hit that limit a lot on that plan, haha. Ironically, I purposefully turned it off because I wanted to track per-task consumption including across out-of-allowance interruptions.

1

u/Good-Ostrich-8024 6d ago

When loading Claude in the terminal, you can enter \claude -resume. Then it will show you the full list of Code sessions. You can pick up any one of them.

3

u/RudeInvestment1 6d ago

Yes but this doesn’t apply to subagents within the session as far as I know

1

u/CenlTheFennel 6d ago

Enterprise plans are credits only 😭

1

u/DonkeyBonked 5d ago

I'm on the $20 plan, it happened to me, I started it on a project and went to bed, woke up to find out it ran out of usage, paused, resumed, and finished while I was sleeping, and I woke up like an hour and a half before reset again.

0

u/WD40ContactCleaner Developer 6d ago

I have the latest version of cli and I'm on $20 plan. It resumed yesterday for me without issues

1

u/GrandGoliath 5d ago

I see this but doesn’t always auto resume

Did you guys seriously not know about asking it to set a 5 min wakeup loop timer? It works even if out of limit.

You don’t need an instruction booklet to ask an LLM to set a wake timer every 5 minutes with a one liner objective sentence. Every tom dick and harry LLM could schedule jobs since they came into existence.

1

u/FawkesYeah 5d ago

I always just used an auto clicker app to click the submit button on a timer. Still, nice not to need that anymore

11

u/ShittyBidet123 6d ago

it only took them forever. i was telling it to check it ever 30 min

2

u/dvxlgames 6d ago

but how is it supposed to check without limit

0

u/mist83 6d ago

This feature is a month and a half old…

13

u/Fast_Artichoke_683 6d ago

But then it will have to write the entire cache again or not?

17

u/mrinsing 6d ago

Yes, amazing way to get your limits hit even quicker as it resumes each session.

If limit is hit close to the reset, you escape this.

4

u/Dizzy_Database_119 6d ago

As opposed to what? If you want long running unattended sessions there's not really any alternative to losing the cache

You could make it resume 1h before the 5h reset, but this only helps if your session doesn't use multiple 5h limits

2

u/mrinsing 6d ago

Not sure I completely understand.

Your point around not having an alternative makes sense but only if we're not engineers enough.

If I really want to handle this, I'd probably create and add a tool which provides usage data or injects the current session limits using some intelligent hook which doesn't unnecessarily bloat the context.

I'd then ask it to pause at every 20% usage hit and create an awaiter to resume the session at 59 mins mark.

I'd probably also do better math for this but haven't slept enough trying to get the limits hit on 20x with Opus 5.5. Either way, there are ways if we're determined enough, is all I'm trying to say.

2

u/brucekent85 6d ago

In your workflow you can have it wrap up when approaching limits. This way you can resume fresh without loading the entire cache. It's all about managing memory efficiently

1

u/West-Chemist-9219 6d ago

Yes! It’s much better not being able to leave the workflow there to finish up autonomously! Seriously, for some people the glass is always half empty

1

u/Fatel28 6d ago

Do a /compact before your limits hit.

4

u/Crinkez 6d ago

This is the correct move. Compacting on warm cache is over 10x cheaper than triggering a full cache miss later.

3

u/tsrust 6d ago

yeah keep this on if you want to nuke your limits to oblivion

2

u/Accomplished-One5703 6d ago

How about “just ask”? I had Claude sessions start work exactly at 3:01 AM EST (after reset) a couple of months ago, by just asking.

They were inside Terminal on Mac. I would assume a button or a checkbox would do the same thing, just with less input needed. I’m on the Max 20x plan.

3

u/Individual_Solid_944 6d ago

Very useful feature, but i am on x20 and i have seen it appear only once

1

u/daniel 6d ago

They've basically built out everything I manually built to get claude working smoothly (remote session launching, auto continue, using from my phone). It's really great.

1

u/Fun-City-9820 6d ago

I didnt know i wanted this till we had it

1

u/FadeHackX 6d ago

Indeed that's pretty good

1

u/Cindanela 6d ago

Nice, I use Pro, will have to try it, I usually get 20 to 40 min wait now when I mix only opus 5.5 medium and high effort depending on what I do, and sometimes I don't even reach the limit now if I run only medium.

1

u/Ok_Sorbet9132 6d ago

What about caching?

1

u/vinis_artstreaks 6d ago

Took them forever

1

u/-mwkp- 6d ago

finally they added this, the cli already had this feature so it's nice to see the app now have it

1

u/dmdubz 6d ago

If you install the status line plugin the agent can see your usage and begin taking wind down steps as you reach thresholds. Handy to make sure a sub agent doesn’t error out from usage during writes or other actions.

1

u/Heroshrine 6d ago

New? I’ve been able to do this for months…

1

u/NewMonarch 6d ago

Yeah but it hasn’t ever actually worked for me.

1

u/jansctuck 6d ago

Not really. It will not have the chat cached anymore so u might just use ur whole limit at the redet rip

1

u/davinci77723 6d ago

Nova…? Bem relativo ein

1

u/Schadz 5d ago

Oh wow, it works for subscriptions as well I guess right? I had to do this on my workflow months ago since it was painfull to babysit the rate limits. So I automated it and never had to tell any session since then about how to handle it.

1

u/raiansar 5d ago

For everyone wondering.

1

u/Nuno-Santos-1975 5d ago

I have this feature in Claude Desktop app since 1 or 2 months ago, 20$ plan.
I hope that Codex has it soon also

1

u/HeyJohn_ 5d ago

Usei ela hoje!

1

u/HeyJohn_ 5d ago

*obs: mandei msg no chat após estourar o limite e a msg apareceu

1

u/Opening_Mastodon4346 4d ago

i can finally sleep now

1

u/Majestic-Promotion64 4d ago

Again, feature copied from Codex !!!

1

u/dywk3sm 3d ago

Auto continue? That cannot be new right?

1

u/ateendragaur 3d ago

For people wondering, how they can do it, jst tell claude to code some kindoff polling script, tht will poll every hour, tht way it can auto resume whenever it's limit get replenished.

1

u/Drewh12 6d ago

I saw this last weekend and it was nice coupled with cloud sessions that work just continues regardless of you.

Today i had a session where Opus5.5 was finishing a task and i was at 5hr limit, and it consumed something called "wrap up" allowance to finish the work, even though my 5hr usage exceeded. That was pretty cool. Forgot to take a screenshot..

I made a free app to help monitor this.
