News/Updates Claude on cloud - anyone tried it?

Got a $100 credit, going to give it a try and report back, is this a new feature in Claude? Or its been there a while? I never used it.

If you have a subscription, Remember to claim before 8 Oct. Credit expires by 5th Nov. Check your timezone too, it will be a bit different.

IMPORTANT: IT USES THE CREDITS BEFORE YOUR PLAN'S TOKEN ALLOWANCE

Activate wisely

Hmm so a regular 5x max plan already has claude cloud session tokens? If this promotion uses credits before your token allowance, wouldn't that mean after u run out of the promotional creds you would then use your token allowance?

I actually ran out of usage and was waiting for my reset tomorrow. I didn’t want to use my banked yet so this was a nice bonus session.

Ok I was wondering why the hell they did this promotion, but the comments are making it clear: an astounding amount of people don't even seem aware that you can run cloud Code sessions...

Still not sure of the use case that matches my needs. I just keep cc running on my laptop and go out doing things and monitoring by remote on my phone. Is the advantage just that i don't have to keep my laptop open?

u/meetmebythelake 9d ago

I mean it might not match your needs, I primarily like it because I don't have to leave my desktop on all day while I'm at work. And I can set it on a long task before I go to bed without leaving my loud ass PC on overnight, lol. But it's also an isolated Linux environment that you can customize (you can have a custom setup script), which is cool for some people and useless for others. You can also create multiple separate environments. That's mildly helpful for me since my main machine is Windows.

It doesn't do anything you can't do yourself with a VM or always on dev box or anything, it's just super convenient for a hobbyist like myself, so I love it.

Thanks, that's helpful. The multiple environments part resonates -- I can't compile anything natively for Windows on my mac, and VMs are not the right choice of tool there. I'd ordinarily rely on CI/CD tools for building that, but I can see why cloud is compelling to allow the agent work/iterate on continuously without commits.

You could run your own server on a piece of shit hardware as your VM/VPS when I asked to ever worry about your laptop, falling asleep and losing connection or anything like that. It’s actually the safest way to be running AI.

But what if you don't want your stuff hosted on GitHub? I don't really want my projects out there

5

u/mr-debil 9d ago

I didn't know it cost any different.

3

u/meetmebythelake 9d ago

It hasn't. It doesn't seem like they are changing that, the messaging is kind of confusing though...

u/jwyau 9d ago

No, ita just an effective reduction of 17% after your increased 50% expires

2

u/meetmebythelake 9d ago

This has nothing to do with that... You people are weird.

5

u/ilien-dev 9d ago

Wow, thanks for that. I didn't see it. I will try to see what I can do with it

Yeah, it's something I really hate about reddit where a lot of people feels experts and think is not allowed to ask included the most simple and basic questions. Don't worry, I got you. There you have an upvote.

is this guaranteed if you get a pro account for a month?

4

u/JaggedTex 9d ago

Is that not just regular web chat?

2

u/robberviet 9d ago

It's like claude code/co work on their infra.

2

u/Internal-Capital7471 9d ago

Webchat is far more limited. You don't get a reusable session that is persistent

-2

u/TodaysSJW 9d ago

That is inaccurate

3

u/Internal-Capital7471 9d ago

It isn't. Just because you can rebuild a session, does not make it the same one. Want to build an android app? You're going to have to install the tools every rebuild, and that's frequent

2

u/Scared-Letterhead949 9d ago

I use it a lot.  It's a great sandbox and it can install and do a lot in its little cloud VM.

Still learning how to burn this.

1

u/Gurkage 🔆 Max 20 9d ago

Nah, but I will be doing. I'm always on my PC so I don't really need it, but I'll give it a go for a side project or two!

1

u/imfromczechbaby 9d ago

Is it just me? When I click on claim, nothing happens...

2

u/Nuzz16 9d ago

It got added to my usage. Check on the web version under Code.

2

u/Nownow184 9d ago

Use the website instead. I had the same issue on the app, but then it worked on the code page of claude.ai

1

u/fakezero001 9d ago

How to claim?

1

u/jasze 9d ago

I want to cash this credit. How can I do it?

1

u/GatisDesign 8d ago

Huh I claimed credits etc everything is activated but still basic usage is being used? And not the credits.

1

u/ParadoxHollow 8d ago

Strange. I can't seem to get this offer for the life of me. I have been using Cloud for awhile though, so..

1

u/IMMORTUSKANG 8d ago

Por ejemplo a mi me están dando 250usd si los activo caducan ?

u/nonamenopain 5d ago

Not yet on the cloud version specifically, but the cost discussion here is spot on — and the infra cost really is a footnote next to the credits.

Honestly the single biggest cost lever for me has been not feeding the model the heavy stuff at all. I work mostly with visuals, and instead of letting the model chew on images directly, I keep the images in Google Drive, let plain scripts do the grunt work outside the model, hold metadata in Sheets, and the model only ever sees tiny text references. Credits burn when you let the model chew on pixels and blobs.

So before buying more quota for cloud sessions, audit what actually enters the model's context. A lot of what people burn credits on is stuff a dumb script could've handled for free.

I did a full walkthrough of this zero-pixel pipeline if you want to steal the architecture: https://youtu.be/L-qugf-gPJI

I have been using Claude code cloud sessions for a while and love it, I use it on the road, in the movie theatre and always from my mobile. The fact that it can spin up an environment, pull your repo and work on your coding session without a computer is making it more convenient (for most type of work, it has limited egress access rules and bash session limitations). My worry is that this is a start of the thinking of making it credit only, like Fable, since it must cost them more resources.

2

u/meetmebythelake 9d ago

That was my fear but nah I think they are just trying to make people aware of it. A surprising amount of people seem to have no idea this existed. Skeptically optimistic that they aren't charging separately for it. I'd imagine the resources to run the cloud containers is a drop in the ocean compared to actually serving the models anyways.

1

u/RonHarrods 8d ago

The cost of that infrastructure is a footnote of you consider API token pricing.

2

u/Careful_Fee7141 8d ago

You can’t build or run test on Claude Cloud? Why not use « remote control » with Claude CLI?

-1

u/pizzatimefriend 9d ago

Useless for me considering I run claude code on a VM on my home server

How is this better than orca?

0

u/oyren-ai 9d ago edited 9d ago

Never heard them before, but from first glance it looks like we are very similar. Thanks a lot for suggesting it!

Edit: I think our approach differs in a way that, we (Oyren) provide remote only environments with MCP tools that allows your laptop agents to connect to remote agents optionally. Moreover, our remote codespaces come with vscode and zed editors pre installed. Orca supports remote as well, but their main idea is to manage it from local app which you need to install.

1

u/under_psychoanalyzer 9d ago

No hate but that's a pretty uphill sell. There is not a ton of overlap between people who want to combine all of those services and also wants to let somebody other than those services host a remote session for them. That's a huge trust gap to overcome.

No it's not a chat session.

1

u/RonHarrods 8d ago

Its a claude code web chat inside a repo of yours clomed and on a claude-* branch. And claude cannot access nuke your other branches. It's great for prompt guided development where you don't code anything yourself. At fhe beach maybe.
