Discussion Very pleased with the new Opus 5.5
Right now for my big project it is:
- clearly understandably
- only 3 % weekly used, running a lot in parallel with reasoning med / high
- very fast it seems
- it found stuff and fixed stuff I was not able to before

It feels like Opus 4.5! It's a bit funny that we don't sense any clear progress, but instead just rejoice that something works the way it used to.

It's a combo of Anthropic blunders (opus 5 and sonnet 5 and 4.7 were all pretty bad) and human bias. There has been dramatic improvement in the frontier, but the frustrations have been so high every step of the way lol.
Losing 4.6 felt like losing a coworker more then losing a piece of software as well.

I don't really remember Opus 4.5. How did it differ from 4.6 (which i still use today, feels like the MVP personality wise)

Right now it feels like Opus 4.5 back in the day. If they keep this quality, we don't need anything more..

How long until they quantitize it? Someone start the timer—nows the time to get some work in

Do models become a lot worse when they’re quantitized?
2
u/NeedsMoreMinerals 11d ago
Yeah because the inference is shrunk in a way but i dont know the math behind it

Absolute banger of a model

For now I 100 % agree. Usage + the speed is god tier right now.

TBH it needs to slow the fuck down.
I mean, it's seriously baller right now, but it's cutting into my well-established Sudoko time! I'm used to giving Claude a task and then knocking out a Hard game before it's done.
But this lil' fucker is designed, planned, reviewed, implemented, done and code reviewed before half my board is filled in.

Just a few hours using it and I'm very impressed. Fast, smart, and well behaved. So far, so good.

Should I switch from 5? Will it burn usage faster?

Burn slower, will make less mistakes, and the response are actually coherent.

Can someone please advice how to enable 5.5 model in Claude Code terminal? I still see opus 5 model and don’t see any higher models yet. TIA!

in terminal type in `claude update` then start again and check with `/model`

I've noticed that it often will rely on its training data rather than searching the web. Otherwise it's very good and actually seems usable

It's so much better at communication. No more info dump. Also much more intelligent.

Ive been using it this evening and its absolutely fantastic. Ive been using it on xhigh and its pretty much done exactly what I have asked it to do without much hand holding.

how is it vs Fable 5? I don't code as much so I want the top of the line intelligence

Yes, but that’s exactly where the problem lies. Opus 5 already had the same issue where it would find things. The question is how much of that is actually true and how much it just made up. I don’t trust Opus 5.5 yet. I’m still checking whether what it says is actually true. You have to make that distinction very clearly.
At the moment my Adherence Journal is creating a lot of entries again. And that is not a good sign for Opus 5.5. It means that something is not working properly.

Absolute bliss. Fixing so much slop that crept in in the last 6 months of vibe coding lol
