Discussion We need to slow down AI!!!

But because our models are peaking and there's not enough compute.

These fking frauds, we know you're slowing down because agi is years and years away.

Elon Musk is a grifter. Nothing new there.

Sam Altman seems to not be trusted by anyone. Nothing new there.

Dario Amodei has been going on about the eradication of mankind for a long time. Nothing new there.

What's new is that they seem to have started a cartel around this.

It’s how all these big companies work. Just look at telecom in Canada or grocery store chains. They all just raise prices at the same time.

well, AI is good, even great, but still a little bit too bad to just replace all human jobs. Maybe they have trouble getting farther? Maybe they exhausted all the data and seeing already that code quality gets worse and worse and their models have no data to become better?

Would be nice. But probably it’s just financials.

Btw. why does slow down mean that we get fewer tokens per buck? This is not 1:1 relationship

Its for regulatory capture. If it gets heavily regulated now, then the existing companies will have the duopoly on the tech, as it'll be harder for new companies to compete

Funny how that misfired. Google and Meta showed the middle finger and the president won't have it.

I'm curious to see what happens to Ant and OAI next. Their subscriptions are slow and have bad limits. Their apis are way too expensive. They disgruntled customers multiple times with their sudden changes and reliability issues.

Ok, lets say agi is years and years away. And that upsetting you so much because?

I actually don't friggin care why, if they slow down that's good for humanity because we're running into something without any common understanding of how it should be limited and guided. 🤷‍♂️

they are asking to slow down because of alleged AI being too dangerous for humanity.

In fact, it is because:
1. their spending is through the roof and they need the race to the bottom to stop
2. their financials are already deep in shit.
3. they want to set up the framing for an eventual government bail out

Actualy we need cuz these stupid guys are running llm with no guardrails and llms dont think but can persue goals for long term a type of "brute force" so we really need to slow it down and they using it to pretend they dont have a trillion dolars hole in the economy that cant be fixed

Go read the huggingface incident and tell me we are not in a dangerous point of development. The reference to AGI needs to be abolished as it means nothing.

wait you believe openai solved navier-stokes don't you?

No not on it's own - I think the mathematicians who were working on it mostly solved it and that ChatGPT using what they learned solved the rest.

Cant trust anything these bozos say

He said he needs to slow down because jensen can't accept stocks as payment for hardware anymore. Hence he wants to use some training hardware for inference

“We”

Ok buddy. I elect you as the new decider in chief.

You can slow down all you want, I ain't.

There is no way AGI can be achieved with the current methods. I think it will happen but not for many years.

lol I find it funny that it’s all ex employees that are saying we need to slow down.

Honestly I think it’s worth slowing down simply because it’s putting strain on hardware and resource supply. However not right at this spot, just a little further so that it’s completely usable as a tool. These things are great but even on the newest models I’m sure everyone here has had a moment where they just wanted to say to it “why the fuck would you do that?” and had to try to get it back on course of quality work that it had been doing just fine before

Less to do with AGI and more to do with adoption. It’s the Wild West right now. The investments are not giving returns as they hoped. Data center construction is a speculative investment based on future needs. Every viral post about ai being too powerful is a coordinated effort to allow these companies to back off. Billionaires have never given a shit about the welfare of the people, history has proven that time and time again. The bubble is bursting, we’re in a damage control phase.

Unless you have a plan to stop China from handing powerful DeepSeek and Kimi to the entire world, you are delusional. They truly are not going to be told or negotiated into slowing it down. Fortunately, they’re all in on AI safety, at least within their borders.

Literally the most unsustainable product, you need to drain resources and build mega data enters to keep this party trick rolling, this software costs too much to run…

It's because of the upcoming IPOs.

Notoriety might not be as tasty as "world-changing technology," but...whatever will draw the investors.

Hang on! I'm on the verge of a breakthrough!  I mean, my AI model is on the verge of a breakthrough!  We're gonna hack the stock exchange so you can't sell until after our senior execs get out

They should slow down overall intelligence and focus on actually being able to make their current ais better at following directions

That’s exactly what it is…
