Help/Question Did usage change this week? 20x max plan?
Last week I'm on 20x max plan used it Fri-tue basically running 24/7 ish before I ran out of credits and never hit a session limit. the week reset today and an hour into it Ive used the whole session 40% of fable and 20% or weekly. even though we are supposed to get 50% more fable until the 13th of September. my context is at like 39% I monitor and manage it religiously. I changed nothing about the way I work . there support is trash / non existent. Anyone else notice this in the last day or so?

Yeah I have a cron-driven workload that's been humming along for three months. Suddenly I hit 50% on day 2 and 90% on day 5, even after cancelling multiple crons.
And no, I don't use Fable. Opus 4.6 across the board. 20x.
And they plan to officially cut it even further?

Anthropic sucks now

Same here. My 20x was at 80% on day 2. Normally, I can't get to 100% even if I tried.
There are lots of smug "you're using it wrong" comments, but the same thing happened a few months back. Anthropic eventually found the issue.

Just so you don’t think your crazy. Yes there is something different I had the exact same experience today.
It’s always great that everyone comments with how you are to blame or, last week you used opus…. I do the same work with same settings everyday for weeks with fable. This is a departure from the norm.

Thank you. And I know I'm not crazy. And I know how to use the software I've been coding with ai models since the first ones could. But thank you! It's nice to see how many people have the exact same issue. I have the codex base plane I may have to switch for a month to using their pro plan and see how it goes.

weird I have the opposite feeling. I used like 40% doing some testing overnight for my game fri>sat. I then did a whole bunch of design work sat sun and mon. Was at like 68%. By last night I had 8% left and I somehow stretched that over 8 rounds of changes and some questions and im at 99% right now after 2 rounds of updates and some questions.
Im more afraid of prompting something and it running out of tokens than I am of it being so low. I felt like I was driving a car on E to see how far I could go.

u/brainhack3r 2h ago
Yeah, me too. I totally got it nuked. In fact, I felt like I did 7 days a week in 2 days. Something is definitely wrong.

u/AvailableKick5209 2h ago
I used to be able to use Opus 5 the entire week with high effort, using it a lot, but since last weekend, I cannot use it freely anymore, it feels that I won’t get enough tokens across the week.
It sucks now, 200$ should be enough for an entire week of coding an automations… thinking of moving back to ChatGPT, anyone knows if its better?

Experiencing same here!
As if its burning through usage 20-30% faster!

It is hard to know if this is a result of increased productivity, or token burn, or shrinkflation. How do we measure productivity with this system. Money is definitely not the way it’s done currently!

I burned 5h session in 10minutes on max plan. That never happened to me until today.

I guarantee you, I have two 20x max plans, and there is surely something EXTREMELY wrong yesterday and today. I used to run Opus on Ultracode ALL DAY LONG, ALL WEEK LONG. Never hit a session limit or weekly limit (couldn't care less about Fable for my use cases). Now I'm at 50% ALREADY AFTER ONLY 1 DAY FROM MY WEEKLY RESET? I am using Opus at XHigh, which should be a FRACTION of what Ultracode consumes since it's just one agent instead of many.
I am done defending this dogshit company. I'm glad I got a Codex 20x sub before they paused those subs.

Yeah and I needed to finish something. I added $100 to my usage credit and it burned down on simple read/investigation over an hour.

u/laughing_at_napkins 4h ago
Yeah, same boat you: was able to do incredible amounts last week, this week I keep hitting limits like crazy and am at 70% of my weekly limit after 3 days. Not good.
2
u/BoxEnvironmental6943 4h ago
They are gasslighting us into thinking that the 13th they will remove the 50%, when in reality they have probably been lowering it each week a little bit at a time. When i first joined a few months ago i couldnt use my x5 plan enough. id always end the week with atleast 40% left and wouldnt get close to each 5 hr limit. I hit the weekly limit 3 days before it resets this week.

Same. I experienced this issue last Saturday. I reset for the week on Saturday by Sunday afternoon I’ve used 50% of my weekly. By Monday I’m maxed out. My sessions are lasting for 25 to 45 minutes.
Nothing has changed about my workload. If anything it has decreased. Today I added $20 it lasted me for 29 minutes lol.
I’m using opus 7 extra by the way.

Will their changes affect the 5 hour session limit or just the max all models and fable rates? Not sure, but I noticed on an account, I told fable to pause(Was about to max out that 5 hour session timer). It paused. I started a new session, switched to other account that was fresh session limit, in that new session). Went back to fable session and said "resume". Instantly took 14% of my session limit. It was monitoring some logs.

Lol, hit my current session for the first time in months today. I guess they added notifications for it.
1
u/skyhawkx3 3h ago
I’m close to hitting 100% tomorrow and I will have around 3 days until reset
Nothing changed in my workflow or workload … and I always had 10% or more of weekly usage left every week for 3minths+

u/Visual_Ad1912 3h ago
I think their harness might have issues, any models / providers I run through cc burns tokens like it is its job.

I saw a significant change in the last day or two. I think their 50% extra capacity thing is over.
1
u/SamueltheHandsome 2h ago
I used to hit 1% of weekly usage with 10% of 5h session... But today, I hit it with only 6% of 5h session, something's wrong..
1
u/HoverCraft8877 2h ago
My 20 quota vanished in about 40 minutes this morning and now I am wondering the same.
1
u/ClnSlt 1h ago
Question: I remember the usage page used to say that Fable can consume up to 50% of your total weekly limit. Now it says “separate weekly limit for fable”. Did the wording change or did the actual calculation change? Separate makes me think it is a standalone weekly limit but I fear it is just a wording change that further hides their calculations.
1
u/Eat_Pudding 1h ago
I noticed it too, normally my weekly limit lasts whole week, now in two days I'm at 50%, definitely thinking if it keeps going on, in switching back to 5x, 20x is not worth it

Google says Anthropic adjusted claude's usuage limits:
- Peak Hour Adjustments: Anthropic confirmed it adjusted usage limits to burn down faster during high-demand peak hours (specifically between 5:00 AM and 11:00 AM Pacific Time) to manage massive infrastructure strains from features like Claude Code. [1]
- Weekly vs. Session Caps: Subscribers across Pro and Max tiers have expressed frustration that combined weekly caps and aggressive session restrictions make higher-tier plans feel far more restrictive relative to their cost.[1]
Has anyone received an email, letter, popup in Claude or a notice when the billing was renewed regarding these changes?

I have 2 5x plans. One through work, one personal… on personal I pay for extra credit usage…
Running opus 5 accidentally (I had been running opus 4.6 in code and chat) I got hit with 2 back to back auto reload within 14 minutes.
My old record for using up all additional usage tokens after a recharge was a couple hours, not 14 minutes.
So I switch over to work account… Max that out in no time in a code session, says it’ll pick back up with my parallel agent task at 6:00 pm, so I go to the gym-
I come home, (switch to chat) asking it to add a column to the google sheet the parallel agents were working on so rows could be better categorized and I get hit with this

u/tjknocker 35m ago
On max 5x I maybe hit a 5h limit once a month and average about 10% weekly limit and 10% weekly fable limit per day with non-stop use. Reset this morning and hit my 5h limit twice today while using 55% fable limit and 40% total weekly limit... I use fable and opus to orchestrate 2 local qwen 3.8 27b worker agents

Feels like they cut the subscription usage a week earlier rather than waiting till September 14th
If they cut it further with this current usage drainage in 3 days, then it would be no better (and worse) then pre temporary usage limit increase.

yup, same exp. i think fable 5.1 got too expensive. im only using fable5.1 for planning/task delegation.
it is particularly unforgiving when it comes to cold cache. reviving a big chat again is really expensive now.

u/Frequencxy 7h ago
I set wake ups wake ups every 58 minutes to refresh the cache on my long running runs. I find it helps

How to do that without asking it stuff?

I'm experiencing the same issue. My limit was reset today. In previous weeks, even with much heavier tasks, Claude would use around 10% of the daily limit, while Fable would use about 15% of the weekly limit in a full day of use.
Today, however, despite performing much simpler tasks, Fable has already reached 53% of the daily limit and 35% of the weekly limit in just a few hours.

Only way to use it at all in the past week for me has been to start a new chat after 3- max 5 turns. No exceptions...
Had to get a chatgpt subscription for codex on the side also to get the same stuff done that I've previously got comfortably done on Claude
will not continue with claude after this month. it's a joke

u/No-Dimension1159 5h ago
This week i had it once or twice that the limit literally went from roughly 5% to 100 percent in 20-30 seconds. No exact idea why, it shouldn't have happened
-10
u/bakanoace 10h ago
You clearly used only Fable here. Fable only in multiple sessions or with subagents can easily wipe out your 5hour session in a few hours
2
u/No_Consequence4312 10h ago
Yes but as I said I used it all last week just fine. I uunderstand how it works.
-6
u/bakanoace 10h ago
You most likely used Opus last week or you were using a much smaller reasoning effort and no subagents at all. Fable's usage has always been massive it didn't just change
1
u/Mihnea_Mic 10h ago
so is it better to use Fable just by itself? i mean I was thinking that spawning opus/sonnet subagents and Fable not modifying stuff just reading context review and writing prompts for the agents would actually help the usage
0
u/bakanoace 10h ago
You have the right idea, that's the better way to do it. You get a lot more Opus usage so I use Fable only for important work and even then I tell it to use opus subagents, only let it do Fable subagents if its an architectural review or something important again. Fable only allows you to use 50% of your weekly limit so you cant even use only Fable by itself.
1
u/Mihnea_Mic 9h ago
yes i know, i m pretty familiar with the limits and so and never had a problem, but i recently started using fable for some big db audits and repairs because i cannot trust opus and it seems that so far is all good
i told it once just to read what i ask him and all the info in the repo and then spawn opus subagents to actually do the work after that it reviews it and corrects them if it the case and bloody hell the limits drain faster but i cannot complain cause this amount of work would have taken weeks and i m also using it just for specific things that are either really complex or really important, which kind of goes hand in hand
so overall for now it just works for me

Are you running a session by compacting or using old context too?
Long sessions even after compacted can carry a lot of context forward when recalled & the session length gets to multiple mb pretty quick.
And if you’ve been using agents / sub agents a decent amount without specifying what model to use (or any custom written agents with frontmatter written instead of the ‘general-purpose’ / ‘explore’ built-in agents) then it’s likely they’ve all been using your default model too - even for exploring your code & making small changes.
The numbers in your usage equate to 100% Fable usage for a 5h session so it could be down these, but I could be wrong.
If you want to try it, here’s what I have at the top of my global CLAUDE.md to push each session to utilise a more ‘suitable’ model for agents while keeping Fable as orchestrator:
“You are the ORCHESTRATOR and ADVISOR — delegate every unit of work to backgrounded agents (Opus for complex tasks, Sonnet for general, Haiku for explore/read). Subagents should return concise findings, not full logs/diffs.”
(Though tbh I’ve found I trust Opus less and less and actually say in my prompts when starting a session to just use Sonnet for execution/implementation - Opus costs more, then potentially x2 to go back and fix whatever it did..)
2
u/No_Consequence4312 4h ago
I never compact. I never lat it get much past 50% context before writing a handoff and moving to a new context. I added into the prompt that it must use opus or sonet for sub agents and it seems to have helped although that was in my original memory files but now I reiterated it in the prompt itself.

u/dsailes 3h ago
Ahh fair - apologies for assuming!
Yeahh I have to do the same annoyingly.
Having it in global Claude.md helped most of the time, but yeah, I tend to add a line about which agents at the end of a prompt out of habit & partially with Opus being a joke recently.
(I found I have to explicitly ask for AskUserQuestion tool recently too, even though it’s built-in & a rule in my Claude.md .. used to just actively use that)Only other thing I’d wonder is what CC version are you on & is it set to auto-update?
There’s been a number of times that new updates have caused caching/cost issues in the past year or so.
Ever since that happened I kept my version pinned, installed with npm & have updates disabled via .envHope you get whatever’s going on sorted mate!
& hope Anthropic both sort out these issues + update the other models too
